phyton use to refill tank | |
nr22173 Small Fry Posts: 14 Kudos: 14 Votes: 0 Registered: 02-Jan-2005 | I have a 55gal and use a phyton to do water changes and clean, but when I refill I use declorinated water I've had standing in a cooler. Can I use water straight from the faucet through the phyton? Won't the chlorine affect the fish? |

I just add dechlorinator to the tank right before filling. Never had a negative effect or fish loss from it. Koi Empty chairs at empty tables, the room silent, forlorn. |

However, using buckets got old real quick and the tank is only 36 gallons I too use the dechlorinator. I put my Prime conditioner in just before I add the water. I usually put a little more in than would be required because I don't measure exactly how many gallons come out. I'd rather err on too much dechlorinator than not enough. One thing I like to do is to look at the thermometer right before I refill. I make sure I don't alter the overall temp more than 1-1.5 F in the process of refilling. Dropping 3 degrees or more runs the risk of bringing on ich or velvet. Raising abruptly can send a low level infection into high bloom. At some point in the future, in my next house, I hope to have a setup with replacement water aging in a container that I can pump out and into the tank. I may or may not do this. I suppose it depends on the sensitivety of species I may have. Have fun with your python Diane Last edited by Cory_Di at 17-Jan-2005 17:56 |

Pouring water into the tank from a few inches or more cause the new water to be aerated, right? Right. SOOOOOO, pouring chlorinated water into the tank water causes it to be aerated, right? Right. Ok, you get my point. This isn't going to take all the chlorine out of the water, but it does take some, also, just put some dechlorinator in there, does the trick immediatly. Phython ~ Jorge |

That is, unless someone is using water from a source which does not have these things. |

And some cities switch their water treatments without letting you know. So, I wouldn't risk it. You can definitely add the dechlor (like Prime) to the tank and then the water directly. My water is treated with chloramine and I've never had a problem. |

Bob Wesolowski Mega Fish Posts: 1379 Kudos: 1462 Registered: 14-Oct-2004 | I use my python to do 40% daily water changes on my 125G discus tank. I treat with Seachem prime just before refilling the tank with the python. Temperature is adjusted at the tap by "touch" to maintain the tank temp at 84F. Never had a problem except for "degassing"., that bubbly effect. It looks odd but it's harmless. You can pick up pythons at your lfs or at Walmart.
