I have never had a canister filter before so I am at a loss to fix my problem. The filter has been running smoothly for 6 weeks. Then the water intake stopped - no suction. The filter itself continued to run - just no suction, no water coming into the intake tube. Several actions could start the suction again (although very slowly) - turning the intake valve off/on, turning the filter off/on, opening/closing the priming cap. The water would flow for an hour or two, then stop. I have taken the filter apart three times, cleaned everything, found no obstruction. The filter is sitting under the tank, on a standard cabinet I bought the the aquarium shop. Help!

This definitely sounds like an air infiltration problem. The unit was formerly known as a Via Aqua 650 cannister filter. Replacement parts may be found at http://www.commodityaxis.com/productdata.aspx?id=48.

I would:
1. Replace intake hose,
2. Check seal at intake flow control valve,
3. Replace large and small "O" rings in the unit,
4. Check pump head rubber gasket.
