Black Ruby Barb, eye popping out | |
ScottF Fish Addict Addiction Hurts!! Posts: 542 Kudos: 330 Votes: 355 Registered: 28-May-2007 | One of my Black Ruby barbs (a female) in my 55g has a seriously bulging eye I just noticed. She has what appears to be a white "bump" or growth on her snout beside the eyes that's popping out. My guess is some sort of fungus. I plan to segregate her to my cycled 10g. I am in the process of moving the three fish that are in the 10g to other tanks so I can start the 10g over. So, this comes at about as convenient a time as something like this can. For now the 10g will have to suffice as a hospital tank. The parameters in the 55g (and all my tanks) are: Amm: 0ppm Nitrites: 0ppm Nitrates: 20-30 ppm hardness: 16 pH: 8.2 What's the best treatment for the eye pop? Thanks. |

I've begun to medicate with a cocktail of Melafix and Pimafix, along with a powdered general fungal medication. I hope I can save her. I'll let y'all know! |

Sometimes, it will go away on it's own. But you did a good thing by moving her to a hospital tank. Good luck! TTFN --->Ta-Ta-For-Now Kelly ;o} |

This morning I began dosing a regular fungal med: Victoria Green/Acriflavine along with Melafix. I read on that site you sent me Keith that it's probably bacterial. So, can I also dose an anti bacterial such as Nitrofurazone/Furazolidone along with the Fungus meds? I didnt see any warnings not to. Thanks! |

Now, my 10g is empty so I will rid it of snails, do a total cleaning and start it over from scratch... I think I will set it up as a quarantine tank for future tankmates of my two larger tanks. I may just keep a shoal of danios or pristella tetras in there for their hardniess and simple beauty (and of course, to keep the tank cycled). I still hate not being able to save sick fish. I've never had any success with that, other than wiping out Ich. |
