What is your Nitrate reading? I am guessing it is at a level right now that is harmful to your fish, making them suseptable to illnesses. Before you criticize someone walk a mile in their shoes. That way you're a mile away and you have their shoes. |

Did you get the water tested correctly before you started adding any fish? Live plants are far better as they will help in the cycling process. Filtration what do you have when and how do you clean it? How did you go about cycling the tank? Have you any airation if so increase itthis will help a little also add some Bio Started to boost your good bacteria Finally did you put all the fish into the tank at once? klinker Small Fry Posts: 3 Kudos: 2 Votes: 0 Registered: 27-Sep-2006 | Hello I took a water sample to 2 fish stores. Both gave me numbers similar to above, 1 said every thing was fine and the other said every thing was good except the ph was high. I am slowly working on lowering it. I showed the picture to one of the stores and they said to treat the tank for fungus and sold me some medication. The fish pictured above has since died and my upsidedowncat fish will be dead in the morning but is showing no signs of illness other then floating on it's side in the tank in the top corner and rapidly breathing. I have had an air stone in the tank since day one. I let the tank cycle before adding fish and slowly added fish a few each week. I am wondering if my problem isn't something toxic in the tank? The plants and gravel all came from the the fish store and were rinsed but my rocks are from the garden. I have slate and granite/marble. I tested every rock with vinigar and they didn't bubble, so i rinsed them and put them in. Stephen |

You would have no idea what has been used and sprayed in and around those rocks or just contaminated from the garden. If they are porus at all any nastie could still be leaching out of the rocks. I would tank them out and buy suitable ones from your LFS. I think that the tank may still be cyclign also... 10G- 6 Zebra Danios, 1 Upside Down Catfish 20G- 1 Goldfish 72G(maybe95)- Need Stock suggestions |
