I have taken several photos to show the size but it is extremly difficult. The growth looks transperant it is about 5-7mm across and about 3-4mm raised.

All the water conditions are V good no problems there 45%+ water change weekly filter also cleaned used tank water.

Feeding loves his food a variety frozen Blood Worms twice a week and different food other every day. No feeding on the water change day. He also gets a feed of cooked peas at least twice a week.
I will put a small note with each photo.

The first photo does not show the swelling as it is on the opposite side. This photo shows his general size.

Second photo
This shows the swelling it is located on the lower part of his body. The exact position can be seen it is exactly between the leaves of the small Java Fern

Looks like the swelling might be a bacterial infection caused by some damage from internal parasites, possibly some constipation too as the gas bloating from the swelling might be blocking some of his intestines.

Id go with some antibiotics to start with , and then give the fish an internal antiparasitic.Obviously you wanna get to it as soon as possible, cos if the intestinal tract becomes fully blocked, or the pressure on the other internal organs becomes too high the fish will die.

Good luck.

Hi,
Keith, see if you can't get hold of the November 2006
issue of the Aquarium Fish Magazine. On page 50, Lee
Newman describes the common fish disease, Dropsy. One of
the symptoms is a swelling that is the result of the fish
not being able to regulate the fluids in a part of its
body.
Try treating it for dropsey. Not all fish that catch it,
exhibit the "pine cone" effect of scales standing on end
and shrunken bellies.

He certainly does not have a shruken belly. The swelling is in that one area only. He is eating extremly well including frozen blood worms, and cooked peas several times a week. It is that one area and one side only. The experienced LFS have no idea either.

I think I'm going to lean towards parasites also because the 'beard' area has receded, giving you an updide down V where the head meets the body. That should be smoother and often when I have seen that, its associasted with some sort of parasite.

When he breates, look at the colour of his gills and just check that they are the right colour. Remember that colour, if it changes thats important.

I'd do a parasite treatment followed by an antibacterial or antibiotic.

Yeah, it doesnt look like dropsy to me either. Try jungle labs antiparasite formula to start with, and you should probably consult with a vet about an antibiotic you can put into the water.Im not sure over-the-counter antibacterials will fix this, youll need a proper antibiotic.

Can't get Jungle products here .

Most common are trichlorfon, frmaldehyde mixes, levimasole and praziquantel. At a push metronitazole is available. I haven't had success with any that I have tried (didn't try trichlorfon) from that lot if it is the thing that I had through mine.

Thank you all for thos responses but what ever it was finally took its toll a few days ago.

What make me think it was dropsy was all his scales were raised as the disease progressed the scales stood out more. There was a good chance he had more that one problem. He lost a lot of weight before all the swelling started including the lump on his sise.
