So 2 nights ago all my fish were fine. No signs of illness or even change in behavior for that matter. Then, yesterday morning I wake up, look in my tank and find 4 of my fish are no longer with us. I lost 2 of my, very large, 3 yr old Bleeding Hearts, Madagascar Rainbow, and Peacock Eel. Any ideas? I tested my water and everything was fine except the pH was 6.0 which I know is low but not enough to cause this overnight, is it? The only thing that has changed with the tank is that I moved my birds to the same wall as the tank. Does bird dander have any ill effects on fish? I'm clueless on this one. Oh, and now I have an ick outbreak in the tank. I'm treating the tank with water changes, salt, and melafix. Any ideas? Am I going a little overkill with treatment?

Thanks,
Mitch.

The only thing I know about "Bird Dander" is that if is on any collected drift wood it can be very dangerous if it is not completly removed before adding it to an Aquarium.

Ich I personally would go out and buy a very good Ich cure and use it as per instructions.
Also increase water movement/airation, raise the temp, turn off all lights, and reduce the feeding.
When you have seen the last of the Ich continue the treatment for at least two weeks.

Finally find out how you got the Ich and take precautions not to get it again.

I am not going to get into the Salt and Melafix topic but I would think twice about why you are using it.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

What value does your pH usually sit at? If it is usually higher then dipping down to 6 may of been what caused the deaths, especially if it was a quick decline.
