Hey all, unfortuantley I dont have any pictures, but I did notice too pretty glaring signs of illness in one of my common plecos (I think he's old and def. almost 10-12 inches long. The tank is about 125 gallons, give or take a few. The first problem is spots which appear almost sandy colored against the pleco's darker skin. It's not ick or anything like that, as the spots are darker and perhaps a centimeter or more in width and length. The problem that really worried me though is that the pleco's underside (belly) almost looks like it was deterioating; the usual quilt-like pattern on the bottom is gone, and the skin appears ragged and sickly looking (on the bellyside). Any ideas as to what this is or how to treat it is appreciated. My only idea was that perhaps I injured it attempting net him the other week, and some sort of infection took over, but I dont know what it is. Thanks a ton.

We need to know more about your tank

Could you do some water quality tests for us and post the results?
Ammonia
Nitrite
Nitrate
pH
If you dont have these testkits take a jar of water to your lfs and ask them to test it for you. Get them to tell you the results.
What other fish are in the tank and how many?
What is your cleaning schedule for the tank and what filtration do you use?

Before you criticize someone walk a mile in their shoes. That way you're a mile away and you have their shoes.
