Hello,
I came home today to check on my fish only to leave later today. I noticed my parrot fish is normaly plain orange. Today, he had red spots on him. I am worried about the little guy. Could it be HITH or what? How would I treat whatever condition it is? I changed the water and the parameters are...

Ammonia - 0ppm
Nitrate - .5ppm
Ph - 7.2

Help... I'm ListeningHere is a pretty cruddy picture but oh well...

To start of with how often and what percentage do you do any water changes. It is possible a water condition or have you added or changed any thing about your tank. Filtration when was it cleaned and how was it done?

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

Well, Since I am not home I haven't done one for 3-4 weeks but normally every week I do a %30 water change. That is what I did today. I did not change anything in my tank. I have a Bio-wheel 150 and it is working well. Also these red spots look like sores. Anyone have any ideas?

Not doing any tank work for at least 3-4 weeks certainly points to a water concern. When did you do any filter maintenaince? I would do several 30% water changes 3-4 day appart also give the filter a good cleaning using the change over water. Also add a measured amount of Bio Starter/Cycle to bring back the correct good bacteria. Can you increase the airation this will help. The only medications I could recommend would be Pimafix & Melafix If possible take the fish to your good LFS and get some good advice on the spot.

You said your nitrAte is 0.5. Did you mean your nitrIte is 0.5 or your nitrAte 5?
If its nitrIte then you have water quality issues and this is why your fish are not healthy and it would seem to me that 3-4 weeks between water changes is not working for your fish.
Any chance of a nitrate reading?
Is someone looking after you fish for you? How much longer are you away for?

Before you criticize someone walk a mile in their shoes. That way you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Oh sorry. It is 5ppm of nitrate. I do %30 water changes every week BUT... for these 4 weeks i couldn't do one. Normally it is every week. I have about 2 months left before full matenence. My dad is watching the tank he just tells me if something is wrong but he wasn't there when the spots started. I can't test nitrite. Any ideas?

Just wanted to add that if you have any type of carbon in your filter system take it out before using any type of meds. The carbon will remove the meds that you add and will do little to help the fish.

Also try and get the Nitrite level. If you have a local wal-mart even go there and by the Jungle test strips. They are not the best but will give you an idea of what the levels are for your tank. Your Nitrate level is fine but if your Nitrite level is the same then you will have some major problem with the tank. If you can't do a water change for some reason add some of the cycle as it will help for alittle bit until you can do a water change. Make sure you follow the above instructions about doing the 30% change every 3-4 days.
