In general, you should know that when you add salt to a fresh water tank, you increase the fishes me This causes them to change the "flow" of water between the cells, the cell membranes, and between the water contained within the body of the fish and the tank outside. This change stresses the fish and causes the fish to secrete more of the protective mucus that the fish forms naturally. In short, when you add salt to a tank with fish that do not live in water with salt, you place an additional stress/physical burden on the fish at times when they are already sick and stressed. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/add_info.cfm?pCatId=11269 I don't see any recomendations for the addition of salt to the water as part of the treatment regime. It will be just a matter of selecting the original breeding fish. In the long term it will work out a lot cheaper and certainly safer. Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info Look here for my Betta 11Gal Desktop & Placidity 5ft Community Tank Photos Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. Feed the live food a nutritious pellet or flake food, and then feed the live food to your fish. That way your fish consumes not only a fish, but also some of the other nutrition included in processed foods. This tactic has been used for especially picky species of fish that ONLY eat fish, so it couldn't hurt for your less-picky fish. -------------------------------------------- The aquarist is one who must learn the ways of the biologist, the chemist, and the veterinarian. |

FRANK Moderator Posts: 5108 Kudos: 5263 Votes: 1690 Registered: 28-Dec-2002 | Hi, Back to the parasites... Here is a site that should help, the "cures," in many cases, depend upon the critter. http://www.aquariumfishwonders.com/health-care/how-to-identify-and-treat-fish-parasites/ It would be nearly impossible to treat a tank for all the possibilities. Keeping the fish housed in a QT for a period of time (a month) would be long enough to ensure that the batch in that tank are healthy. Don't break the quarantine by adding more fish to replace those that have been fed. Also, don't use any of the feeders until they have been in quarantine for at least a month. Wait until the tank is empty of fish before adding any additional feeders. You would probably need a couple, or three, tanks to keep enough feeders in quarantine, to have a continuous source of live food.
