hey, i've got 5 adult convicts and a bunch of babies ones in a 200 litre tank with some platys and a Common Algae Eater. I'm worried about my biggest male convict, he's got a white patch on his left side in about the middle of his body and its about 1cm by .5cm. he is in competition with my other big convict so it might be a bight or somthing but he somtimes wipes it on a rock.
PLEASE HELP

Check your water parameters; ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH. Post results here. If you dont have the testkits for these then take a sample of water to your lfs and get them to write down the results.
How often do you do water changes and what filtration do you have for the tank?

Before you criticize someone walk a mile in their shoes. That way you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

I think you will find that the water peramiters are not the best. It is strongly advisable to do a 25%-30% water changes weekly.

Are you using any dechlorinator or any other treatments to your water before it is added to your tank.

What type of filtration do you have and how often do you clean it completly.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

Couple of things to note,

1)chinese algae eaters sometimes adhere to large flat sided fish and cause wounds,

2)it may be fungus or a variant of cottonmouth bacteria, so youll need to get on top of the infection whatever the initial cause may be.

Hope this helps.

Excellent news. Did you do anything to treat it, or did it heal on its own?
