I would think that water factors, temperature factors, feeding and maintenance would be documented in the experiment procedure and write up. Chalk it up to doing things the easy way - "He told me that the chemical reacted with the bowl," instead of eliminating potential causes. __________ "To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research." researched from Steven Wright |

Is it one kid telling another kid the problem? Some kids (here the fish problem one) can not be told any thing as they know it all. This person sounds like he knows he is doing and it all correct and you are just wrong no matter what you say or do. Certainly water chemistry is an important part in solving aquarium problems. There are many othere factors as well and all you are doing is trying to establish or eliminate the cause. As far as chemicals reacting on plastic any thing is possible it is just another process of elimination. A simple question was it washed out correctly before you added the fish if so what did you use, also what other chemicals have you added? As other repliers have pointed out there are many reasons that could cause his problems and there is even a possibility it is none of them at all it could be this person is doing something totally wrong. Chris all you are doing is a process of elimination and with out seeing the problem this is an excellent way to start. Its the nature of forums, no voice is heard, no explanation quick enough, no figures of authority to be seen, and no ranking truly qualititive. The nice thing about doing it in the flesh is you can MAKE them do the test, but unfortunately on the net we have to put up with many things, one of which is the blindness of youth. Old folks do it too, and there will always be folks who play devils advocate too, who will just love to contradict you at a critical moment with the worst load of rubbish youve ever heard irrelevant of age. You can only hope youve been heard and know that at least you tried. Ultimately we can only help those who choose to listen with a discerning ear,and their fish are not really our responsibility no matter how much we feel that that may be. You do your best chris, right or wrong, and thats all that can be asked of anyone. We only fail when we stop trying to help, even though we know that some people cant be helped and subsequently neither can their fish.Persevere good buddy, frustration is the nature of the beast. The ups are more or less worth the downs, and a life saved a special thing. |
