white film over eyes | |
michelsa Hobbyist Posts: 77 Kudos: 57 Votes: 12 Registered: 12-Mar-2005 | I have a black shark. He's about 7" long now, I know he's going to have to have a new home soon being in my 55 gal, but every once in awhile he gets this white film over his eyes, gets lethargic, and does the dive and scratch thing on the plants and rocks. I am thinking that it may have something to do with Melafix, but i am not sure. I had a fish with fin rot and was treating him with the melafix. Anyone have an idea? chelle |

Be sure to test water parameters and post those as well. pH, nitrite/nitrate, ammonia, temperature. It could be a nutritional problem or flukes(parasites) in the eye, or a problem with the water. Be sure to list any other symptoms as well, the fish's behaviour, is it gasping, bleeding, acting strange. All that info will help to get you on the right track. If the filmy haze persists after two generous water changes (30%) in two or four days, consider the possibuility of a bacterial infection. In all likelihood it is a reaction to increased nitrates in the water that are irritating the eye and skin surfaces. __________ "To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research." researched from Steven Wright |

I tested the water parameters and the nitrates were a little on the high side, but after a 25-30% water change he got better. That was the only symptom he had. I did raise the temp to help get rid of the ich problem i was having??? chelle |
