i believe i have mono, but is there any other way to tell without a bloodtest. i fear needles and dont want a bloodtest.

I woke up sterday morning with swollen glands, over the past 2 days my left side near to stomach started to hurt.

So i went to the doctor and was tested for strept and it came back negative. So they think it is mono, but again i didnt want to do a blood test.

So what do you think, i have no fevers, headaches, troat problems etc.. loss of sleep...

So do you think it is mono, and is there anyway to tell without bloodwork.

Could be mono. Then again, it might not. I'm not a medical professional, and frankly you shouldn't try to get a diagnosis from anyone who isn't.

I know needles can be scary, but get the blood test. You can ask your doc if there is another way to do it, but there isn't one that I know of. Mono has the potential to be very serious, and you need to be sure of what you have.

deal with it.

I hate needles too (i'm a difficult person to get a vein), but get over it.

We're not medical professionals, and if the only way to find out is have a blood test then buck up and bear it. It only hurts for a second.

We cannot give you a medical diagnosis. We're not doctors, nor do we play one on TV.

But....
"I did say at a Holiday Inn last night."

Go back to the doctor and get the test.

Doesn't matter what it is. Causes of swollen glands require needles to determine. You can do it now or risk possibly having it down from a hospital bed. 2 people in my highschool class ended up spending a few days in a hospital because of mono. Besides blood tests always come with a urine test and those are definitely better to do while you feel good enough to stand without help.

Usually with mono your spleen will be swollen and sensitive. But the only way to be sure it is mono (it's possible to have mono without that symptom) and not something else is to have them do the blood work. Plus it's not exactly easy to find the spleen unless you are a medical professional. So go to the doctor and look away and bite your tongue when they jab you. You'll never know it when it's over.

Isn't mono one of those things with a selection of causes? I'd want to know exactly which one, as that'd leave me in a better position to know how to handle it.

For animals, the entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks. - Terry Pratchett

Its only a blood test I would rather a simple blood test than all the needles I had for the eye operations including some directly into the eye after the operation to correct a slight problem. My cat gets blood test regularly and she never complains.

Ohhhh, I've wondered for ages what "mono" was - it's Glandular Fever. Makes sense now.

In the UK, I'm pretty sure you don't get blood tests to diagnose it unless you are in hospital, it's diagnosed symptomatically. I've never known anyone have a bloodtest to diagnose Glandular Fever, anyway

Really, TC? In the US, it is relatively commonplace to get the blood test for it when it is suspected. I've had one.

i think getting the blood test would make it fair so just to make sure that i dont have it. Hopefully i can get karma points as i feel that i didnt do it for myself, but fo my lady friends.
