Little black ones, and they are driving me crazy. At the beginning of the year they started moving inside. I blocked where I thought they were coming in from but they have a secret entrance somewhere! I found them nesting in my sons cd player, and last night I discovered them nesting around the hinges of the fish tank hood.
Anyone have any ideas of how I can get rid of them? I have surface sprayed, used antrid traps and the syrup stuff all to no avail. I have spent countless hours trying to follow their trails to find where they come in from but they are determind little insects. I am going to get someof those insect bomb things if I dont have success soon. Grrrrrrrrr!!

Borax.

We've used the antrid traps and the foam stuff...that helped. But I found borax worked. That or it was just lucky timing.

Get some borax from the cleaning section of the grocery store (I use it for housecleaning cause it doens't irritate my skin and breathing like other stuff does). Mine was in a white container with red lid.

Mix with either peanut butter, or sugar water. Make sure the kiddos know not to play with it, and try to keep it away from the pets. Put it right where the ants are running and they should pick that up instead. Take it back to the nest and kill everyone. Just like the antrid traps are supposed to do!

Good luck *crosses fingers* Our ants love the cats food bowl. We even got her one of the ant free bowls, and what does she do but drop food in the water ring, then the ants walk right over sunken food to the top prize !

the household cleaner ...Comet works fairly good, best stuff I've ever used is called " Roach-Proof ".... ultra fine granular powder....works on; insects, spiders, reptiles & rodents.... indoors and out, good stuff but can be difficult to find here in the states, maybe impossible elsewhere but worth looking for.

You can guarantee its the weather possibly the rain driving them inside. At the gym they have even moved into the sauna.

WARNING be extremely careful where you lay the traps and spray if they are returning to a nest via the tank and fall in no need to tell you what will happen to the fish.

If you can locate the nest, spray directly into the nest of pour boiling water into the nest.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

I havent been able to find the nest. They have been getting through tiny cracks in the grout of the kitchen tiles under the window. Its driving me crazy, they always find another crack to get in through!

*runs around stomping with lindy*

I shoulda taken a hint, and started putting water back in the 'ant proof' dinner dish, the cat was quite angry about having a hundred ants all over her food.

I was quite angry to find they'd found another crack.

I feel for ya lindy, they found another one here too. We had a little tiny bit of the foam left that adam put in the crack, I made up some more borax and sugar water... we'll how it goes.

Boiling water will kill any ants, as will fly spray.
Other than that you could find many praying mantis and literally line them up. Blocking entrances wont work as they will just find a way in, keep spraying them wherever they are in the house and these clever animals will re-route their lines to outside of your house.

Its been nine months of spraying and blocking. I think they are more determind than clever! I dont leave any food out that would attract them, they just seem to like having a wonder around my house.... much to my disgust. I found them in the iron today! When I shook it around a bit they started scurrying out with eggs in claws or whatever it is they have. I only used the iron 3 days ago so they moved in pretty quick. I think I am gonna go buy those insect bomb thingies.

Hi Lindy, I have had that problem when it gets real rainy in the fall. Best over all is to get a pro pest sprayer to spray your outside foundation and basement if you have one. Mine moved in and went straight to the attic. I went to work one morning and came home in the evening to an ant pile on my counter next to the coffee pot. Other than a pro, the borax works better than pest bombs because they do adapt quickly. Good luck.
