Seriously though, if all else fails, you could always resort to the alt F4/ quick tab (<3 mozilla)/ hot key trick to minimize the screen before the parentals catch you in the act. Not that you shouldn't try and persuade them first. But let's face it, if you're using a p2p chat interface such as AIM/MSN/etc, you run almost the same risks (maybe even more, as FP isn't p2p oriented). And if you haven't gotten into trouble with those, then I don't see why you shouldn't be allowed to use this chat.

have them lurk chat as much as they want if they don't believe you. have them open a chat window and instead of logging in, just put a space for the username and hit the login button. then the chat window will open up but you won't be logged in to respond. that way they can see exactly what goes on in chat and they can see for themselves the kind of "weirdos" we have on this site

Arguing with them may only cause them to feel more strongly that you should not be involved here. They are ofcourse welcome to visit the chatroom and to check the site out.
If there are any such weirdos here trying these tricks i'd love to know about it. They certainly arent welcome I can tell you. We try very hard to keep this site friendly.
Although I dont know you on a personal level I do get the impression that you are a responsible and mature person who would be careful in the information you give people.

"weirdos"

Yes there are some "weirdos" or should I say some stupid behaviour from who are usually young and silly on chat but that is life they are every where. This is an extremly very small number. I think Adam is doing an excellent job of stopping these, but some seem to come back with new names.

As being one of the elder members (age) I have read many of your postings and you certainly come across as a very mature person. You parents are only trying to protect you at what they are thinking is correct.

I suggest they sit along side you and they can see for themselves that you are a very responsible person and are capabile of sorting out for youself when and when not to visit chat.

If and when some of these people get on I just do not see or reply to any of their postings, and I am sure there are many other responsible menbers who do the same.

I'd let them hang out in here for a while, so they KNOW that there's nothing wrong with any of us. Sure, some of us may be a little weird, but in the 1 3/4 years I've been here, I've never seen anybody here trying to get anybody's personal info or do anything malicious....
