Many were brought under control be the over night cool change and rains. Still very nasty at this time of the year. Before you criticize someone walk a mile in their shoes. That way you're a mile away and you have their shoes. |

I wonder if clean air is going to be something of a rare commodity in the future, as depicted in those sci-fi movies. It makes me so mad to think that people can choose to do something so stupid as to set forest fires and destroying the environment while they are at it. Areas burned regenerate better quality habitat for wildlife. A lot of ecosystems are dependent on fire to remain in their normal successional stages (prairie is a prime example of this). Many plant species require periodic fire to reproduce. In the past few decades, the number of wildfires around the world has been drastically reduced because people want to control them. Oddly enough this also puts a lot of species of plants and animals at risk. ><> |

In parts of Aust a burn off is done so that the dense old under growth is burnt off. In the very north of Aust in the dry cattle country the old grasses are burnt off to allow the new grow to come on. This is done just before the wet season starts which can be any where from Oct-Jan. That's nature. Granted, some fires are not in the best interest of sprawl and their precious high rises and beehive housing, but tough. Population control at it's finest. |
