It'll be a while til the girl can see this, but I thought you all might like to know. I'll print this thread and run it over to her in a few days

Sin managed to put herself through a fish tank at work on Monday, and has been in hospital for a while getting patched back up.

As best I know its all been fixed up, but she's going to be out of action for a while and could probably do with some stories of your own run ins with tanks or other stories that will un-mope her (she was due to go up the coast in 4 days, so she'll be pretty miserable )

Will update with more news (and hopefully nice gory piccies) when I have them

Sorry for your situation Sin! I'm new, so I don't know who Sin is. Please tell those of us who don't know.

I know a couple of people who have said they wished they could be a fish in their own tank............. but sounds like Sin tried to do it the hard way!

Please tell us how this happened. I was just curious, plus it might help the rest of us to try not to do the same thing in the future.

I wish you a full & speedy recovery Sin!

does this have anything to do with her absence from the forums for so long? in any case, hope she's doing much better by the time she reads this

Sin!
You break it you buy it! I want details!...any maybe some pics .

crazy girl you have to pretend it's broken so you can take it home with you! It'll do you no good all shattered!

My broken glass story is just not to leave storm doors leaning against the side of your house during a hurricane . Oh and to not catch falling pieces of broken glass or ceramic.

haven't we had enough broken fishtank stories on this site

Heal quick !

d'oh! Get better Sin!!

Your broken tank story seems a bit more serious than mine, but i'll tell it anyway, eventhough it's dumb.

When i worked at the pet shop, I usually went out and got lunch, and ate it in the back of the shop. We had run out of chairs, so i put an empty 10 gallon on it's side and had a seat. I've done this for many years prior without issue, but apparently this tank had some faults in it, because when i sat down the thing shattered and i fell straight to the floor! I was mortified that I had cut some 'parts' and was scared to even get up. But alas, luck was on my side that day as i arose from the pile of shattered glass without incident. Last time i'll sit on a tank

Get better phOOl

Haven't gone through a tank yet, but I have been shocked by heaters when they broke while I was cleaning tanks. (Note how I've done this more than once!)

Just remember so you don't do it again, Sin!

OUCH

We're rooting for you ~Sin~.

And don't worry about missing your trip up the coast. The Coast will still be there when you are all fixed up!

I don't have any broken tank stories. I am sure my day will come though, and you guys will be the first to know!!

Nah Doggie, her absence from here is caused by her taking a job with no net connection She's working at a fish importer/wholesaler now. I suspect she'll be on deskwork when she gets back, so you never know could see a bit more of her.

She has had quite an ordeal this morning trying to butter a piece of toast on a hospital tray with only the one hand operational

No tendon or ligament damage, but fairly extensive severing of important stuff, like muscle and nerves. The plastic surgeons have stitched her all back up though, and she reckons she can wiggle her fingers.

I'm currently trying to secure photos of the tank remnants.
Might get one of the arm too, but I won't put it here *icky!*

Apparently she was up a plastic ladder (one that Workcover insisted that they use, boy don't they look silly now!) getting fish from the upper tank on one row and the ladder broke, causing her to fall backwards into the tank of large orandas on the opposite racking.

I think some of the fish lived to tell the tale. In a moment of shock-induced clarity she apparently informed an uninjured person that there were fish on the floor, the reply to which was a short and colourful version of "no kidding, but your arm is our main concern"

It wasn't so much that the ladder broke, Calla, it was that the ornadas, being such large goldfish, exhibited such a gravitational pull that Sin was actually pulled backwards.

Of course, now that you're telling the story, I can't help but remember the Little Giant Ladder infomercial where one of the hosts falls of the damn thing and, if I recall correctly, knocks himself unconcious.

I can just see it now

"there are fish on the floor"

!

I suppose it was a good thing it was orandas, and not something ....like sting rays...

sorry, is it too early to be making jokes like that ....

and yes...walk around the tank next time ! Just cause ther'es no spoon doesn't mean there's no tank...even if that was a theory for a story I was writing.

^_^

That is awful.

Buckleys of WorkCover being kind. I had an awful experience last year. Strangely... a stepladder at work. Spooky.
