I don't see where you had two posts, except where you added the second post to say you were double posting. This is the first I've heard of this double posting. I don't remember seeing it written anywhere? Would someone please explain the written or unwritten "code of ethics" related to this "double posting". I get in enough trouble as it is without pushing it any farther, unintentionally or otherwise. |

Alkyne Mega Fish Posts: 1053 Kudos: 2064 Votes: 23 Registered: 29-Apr-2003 | I edited the second post-I accidentally hit the post reply button twice. Not necessarily really rude, just more of a mistake. |

Calilasseia *Ultimate Fish Guru* Panda Funster Posts: 5496 Kudos: 2828 Votes: 731 Registered: 10-Feb-2003 | "Double posting" can mean two things: [1] Accidentally posting the same post twice (as sometimes happens when there's a glitch in the system); [2] Appending a second post immediately following your first, because you've had a sudden afterthought. Usually, if something needs to be added to what you've already said, the aim is to hit the "edit post" button and append your new thoughts to what you posted previously - this is the method that is considered 'good manners'. However, sometimes a second separate post is apposite for effect. Judging when this is the case, of course, is something of a fine art, which is why it tends not to be used often even by the experienced. More usually, case [1] applies - the poster hits the "Post Reply" button, something goes AWOL with the poster's Internet connection, some kind of error message is received, the poster hits the "Back" button and tries again, only to discover that the first post was indeed received by the server, and the glitch only affected the server's acknowledgement of this. Result is a duplicate post. Hopefully this clarifies things. |

fish patty Fish Addict Posts: 539 Kudos: 223 Votes: 255 Registered: 04-Oct-2006 | Got it Cali. I used to just add the second post, but that was before I REALLY noticed all those little words & symbols at the bottom, or realized what they were for. Finally a little experimenting showed me what "edit" was for........... which is why a lot of my posts have been edited. Hey.............I've never claimed to be the sharpest knife in the drawer. |
