no virus scanner

hardware firewall (ie firewall is sitting in our closet) so we're behind our own system.

when doing a firewall test from a site like norton or mcaffee- they can't even detect us - we're pretty much invisible to the outside world.

Ad aware for scanning. Norton Auto protect doesn't let me do much in the way of mIRC, so I keep it off most of the time.

Ad-Aware, Norton Anti-Virus, XP Firewall, and a firewall my ISP provides.

Thinking of getting zone alarm pro.

I use Norton Antivirus on always, run weekly, use Norton Internet Security, on always, use Norton Firewall, always on, I use Ad Aware for spyware, Spybot Search 'n' Destroy, both used weekly, and I have an internal computer firewall that runs automatically.
I find you cant be too careful, I had a trojan virus on my computer last spring that cost 175 dollars to remove. Not to mention the other 47 viruses of various kinds, and over 100,000 items of spyware!
Now I always check everything.

I used to have a firewall, and check for spyware like 1 time a week, but the firewall slowed my comp down too much at startup, so i took it off, and i check for spyware whnever i remember to (probably about 1 time a month)

Kaspersky AV and Sygate firewall even though we're on a router it still pays to be that extra bit careful
While we're on the subject of AV programs, I'd like to remind people to UPDATE your AVP regularly because new viruses are written daily and your AV program wont pick up on them unless you are up to date

I know several people who use these and do regular checks even daily Spyware checks. Are they being too cautious or is the way to go with modern technology today.

I don't even know the full security setup that we have... hubby works on the network security team for Federated, which is Macy's, Rich's, Bloomie's, Lazarus, Goldsmith's, and Burdines... so we have a Unix box set up as our firewall & server and a bunch of other stuff... I think it's like Fort Knox, except tighter. And I am not allowed to fill out any forms or click yes to anything on the Internet... I ended up hosing up my old computer and have been very cautious since then. Anyhow, I know we have spyware and anti-virus software and I have ad-aware on my computer which runs every start-up... and there is always somthing it finds. Gotta have it in this day and age.

yeah, i have the fastclick issue taken care of, took me forever to find out where i kept getting it from

i run AdAware, Spybot and 2 firewalls, one on the Linux server, and a personal one.

HOWEVER, i'm slack with my virus program, it slows everything down too much.

Keith...

Hank refers to me as an "internet offender". In other words, if there is something bad out there to pick up I will find it. He often mutters something (in a loving tone of course) about I should use a mac machine under his breath. I keep telling him not to fret, that I have yet to meet my full potential.

So... we have a unix box that acts as a server and a firewall machine. I have Spybot on my computer and I use a shell to do my main email.

I would hate to think where I would be without all three.

Hi Keith,
I use Zone alarm, Spybot and Ad-aware and you'd be amazed what you find. Did you know that when you log onto Fish Profiles spyware is loaded into your computer? My system blocks it each time I log on. It's called "fast click". I find each of theses programs invaluable to keep my PC secure.
Cheers, James.
