also, it seemed to turn away from its original intent and ended up being more about punishing than rewarding (at least from what i saw)

why cant it just be about rewards? Cant the rating only be verified with an associated thread? I should shut up really. I am just too chicken to help people. I dont want to be responsible for anyones fish/plants dieing from mis diagnosis.

I am just too chicken to help people. I dont want to be responsible for anyones fish/plants dieing from mis diagnosis.

This is a very true statment Troy, I find myself feeling the same way sometimes.
I can and have passed on info that I have experianced myself.
But I feel sometimes no info is the best info, being that the poeple on this site have extensive knowledge in one area or another and the question will be answered by one of these people.
Now some people could take this as a cop-out , but I truly believe that if it's a guess don't answer. I joined F.P. to learn all I can about the hobby from the best people in the hobby, and I am still learning, so until I am confident enough to be sure what I am awswering to is indeed fact, my post count will remain low.
I believe Gary has said more or less the same thing when it comes to the hospital forum. { corect me if I am wrong Gary.}
This is the reason that I don't care for post count, in my oppion it can be misleading, I feel that sometimes people that have a low post count like myself are looked at has to be not particpateing.
On the other side of the story most of the high post count people on this board are indeed the people that I look to for the right answers and I do end up getting it.
So people that have helped me on F.P.In one way or another everone that visits this board.
Now after my ramblings I have special people I would like to say stand out on F.P. for there contribution to my learning.
Gary, Lindy, Babel, Tim, Keith, Koi, Ect etc etc.
Thankyou to all.
Tom

Uggg lets not even bring up post count

some of you remember how many times I'd go thru and delete old posts of mine just to lower post count ...I just didnt' like having a higher one which might lead to people thinking that I actually know something :%)

I reply to posts even if I only know a bit because I know sometimes people just need something to go on...I've been there before. If you're faced with something you've never never come across before and have no place to start from...well then something to start a google search on is better than nothing....I wonder if maybe we could turn post counters off...tha'd be great ...

I dont want to be responsible for anyones fish/plants dieing from mis diagnosis

Members who have helped me the most, in no specific order.

Crazygar - gets top kudos in my book.

Babelfish, GaryRoland, Frank, Pisces Girl (formerly Sunflower Girl Tsu), there is also a cichlid fanatic, Cichladae DM I thinks, and Jason RS, and lately Jester_Fu.
Also Cory_Di although she hasn't been around much lately.

There are alot more members who have helped me out also.
They all deserve my thanks. And let's not forget Adam and Worley OF COURSE !

Off the top of my head, I'll probably think of more later...

keithgh for photography advice and tips on feeding veggies & fruits

babelfish for plant and aquascaping advice

bensaf for some good conversations and information about our gourami friends

kitten has been an inspiration for the female betta tank I can't seem to achieve

LittleMousling helped me a lot when I was starting with my Endler's

Hmm, let's see ... with shellies, Malaikah definitely tops the list, along with Dave. For photos, Babel and Keith. For random questions - nearly everyone!

Well, I thought that we are getting so much information in the forums from other people and I think that here we should thank them for what they have done. So, if you reply to this, just write down the username of the person and what they did to help you. The person that has helped me the most is Ontariobetta. He has helped me and given me information on EVERY post I have made. Thank you Ontariobetta. Now, please thank the people that helped you. Bye!

I haven't really asked many questions personally, but some of the more helpful members I've seen are Racso, gartenzwerfe, Theresa_M, Callatya, just_beginning, keithgh, and Falstaf...

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.

I see I have been mentioned here a few times. It is good to see the advice/ideas/help has been appreciated.

If I were to list the people who assisted me it would be many and I could easly miss as many again.

It was their help in the begining especially computer & photography related that was the most appreciated. Several members got me to try different foods and from that I have helped many others try some thing different.

I have a policy if I dont know about the question dont answer for the sake of it, but direct them to where they can get good advice.

I think I have sent many PM along the way. I think this gives the personal touch. I also received many PM when I started and they made me feel confident in what I am doing today.

Been helped by so many people, almost too many to mention.

The one's I will mention though all have one thing in common, they go the extra distance to help, doing things above and beyond the call of duty.

keithgh - always helpful and goes out of his way to assist nothing is too much trouble.
FRANK - always makes his posts as informative as possible but in a language that even I can understand.
Babelfish - mainly 'cos, well, she's Babel ! No, always helpful puts in a lot of effort and great for whipping up enthusiasm.
Falstaff - really goes out of his way to help people with their aquascapes to the point of posting computer generated designs.
Bonke - done a lot of work sharing his projects with us.
Little Mousling - always got great info on plants.

There are many many others, garyroland, Jake, Gomer ..... but to use a cliche - you know who you are !

Wow, my name was even mentioned. Thanks Bensaf.

My thanks go out to:

Tammy
Babelfish
Garyroland
Callatya
Sinara
Nate
Moondog

...and basically all of you guys. I could make a list a page long.

Geez, when i first started... back in the old days...

Back when Tammy was StressedOut, and Keegan could tell you what catfish you needed at the drop of a hat... those were the days *sigh*

To be honest, i dont remember the names of those who helped with my first tank, I know Tammy was there, and i do remember MusicMaker being very good at explaining things, but other than that, i'm drawing a blank on names.
Mez was actually really helpful too come to think of it.

Nowadays, its kind of a collaborative effort, everyone chimes in and has fun discussions. I think i like both styles.

Since we're naming names....
Cory_Di for all the medical help! anyone remember my perferated goldfish and exploding ottos!
Tiny_clanger with my sister poor sory betta
Fallout for making me feel @home, answering all my dumb questions and telling me to close down Babelfish's night club
Callatya for stuff...must have been bettas :%)
moondog for making a lunar pup out of me
Sun (now Piscesgirl) for answering posts, and confirming that stock tanks work
Frank for plants...and lighting, and making me want to be his neighbor!
The original members of the KBA that are no longer with us, spring and sea et al

What really makes the site good is that people care enough to help others...without that all the work and effort that Master Adam puts into the code, all the time spend by Super Lindy and the mods into keeping it family friendly is worth little.
