Yes, that is whatever four letter word you want to make it, including any of the ones I've used so far in this post:%)

Here I sit, I've done my lesson plans, got the homework set up for this week, and even have everything ready to start/finish grading, and the stuff to work on my writing portfolios, I don't mind getting off line and working on it, and have been off and on today...I do love my job, and love what I do, but tomorrow I have to go back to school and face the coworkers, students, and everyone else, and am notwanting to...to be honest I'm sitting here having panic attacks because of it, and am sure I won't be sleeping tonight which will make tomorrow even better, huh?

So am I the only one that after a "vacation" doesn't want to go back? And tell me is this a bad sign? Or is it normal?

Heidi

This time it is really making me sick with the thought of going back. I don't remember ever really feeling this way before, and I remember a time when I looked forward to going back I do know that I have a meeting with the principal and vice-principal tomorrow at 10:30 am, which we were supposed to have before spring break, but didn't. I really feel as though I am a student who has done something bad and has to go visit the principal's office, it just doesn't seem right...hml

through babbling now, I'll go finish grading the papers I have and finish the writing portfolios...

There have been times when I have been excited to go back to school and see all the students and fellow teachers. Not now...nope.. I think that Heidi and I are both suffering from the Texas teacher burnout syndrome. The reason why most new teachers do not last longer than three years in Texas. TAKS..the pressure of teaching to a test, and our job depends on how well the students do on the test, but most of the students are not held accountable. ]

If most parents in Texas knew how much their students are taught only what is on the test...they would riot outside of the capitol building at Austin.

Well, I will get off my soap box now. I, too, have to grade papers. :#(

I'm not a teacher, in fact I'm a student, but I can sympathize with the both of you. ^^;

Going back to school after a big long break can get downright scary. :#( So hugs for both of you, I hope you get adjusted to things again!

My job used to be more fun but even then vacation was better. If I won Lotto or sold a book I'd be out of there.

If it starts getting to you, say to yourself, "I'm wearing lavender undies." It may not help but at least it'll make you smile.

Don't let'm get you down, Mike

You hit the nail on the head. The meeting wasn't able to go ahead and you have had time to stew (it has been rolling around for weeks, probably even cropping up in a way out dream or two). I am sure there is nothing to be concerned about, we all know how much you put into your job.

am sure the meeting will go swimmingly, let us all know. I bet they praise you and try and get you to take on a few more responsibilities/projects....

Towards the end of my teching career 26yrs that is exactly the way I felt it got that way it was every Mon morning.

You are not alone I can assure you especially in the teaching profession today.

It all depends on the school, students, and the people who run the school system.

Personaly I would take several deep breaths and think is this for me or is it only the school I am working at.

I have seen many admin move on and many new arrive some for the better and some for the worse these are the hard years.

Teaching would be one of the most rewarding professions ever. It is later in life you see these young kids how they have matured and talk to you in the street and say thank you.

Some of my best mates are the kids I taught, one married my daughter.

All the best on your decision

Keith

I'm actually still on medical from January 3 when I started with this asthmatic bronchitis or whatever it is. I want to go back to work when I feel well enough to handle the rigors. I do enjoy my job very much as it is mentally stimulating.

It looks like I might be able to go back April 1, according to my doc. I hope so :88)

EDIT: Anyone notice it doesn't state what you voted for anymore

I voted for "Not quite ready to go back but really looking forward to it" because I'm still feeling off with the hacking, but look forward to feeling better and getting back into the grind.

I should add that I've had jobs I've loved and jobs I've hated. I can say that if you are in a job that has you miserable just thinking about it, then you need to find a way to get into something you are passionate about.

Before I started my vehicle structure design and design engineering careers, I found myself calling in sick alot and taking MH days (mental health) . But I had horrible bosses, was subject to discriminatory behavior, and menial work that required little thought. That ended, thankfully, some 15 years ago, with much schooling and hard work when I realized I needed something better. Just getting into a professional atmosphere made a big difference.

Now I work in a field that accepts women, has many female managers and executives, is highly stimulating intellectually, and allows me to use both my creative side, and my detail oriented side - an odd mix for most.

In my last job it would of been 'Not quite ready to go back, but really look forward to it.'

But I have had jobs where i've dreaded every single day from the moment I wake in the morning. My hubby was stuck in a job he hated until 6 months ago, he was forced to leave due to the business taking a bad turn. While it didnt seem like it at the time, it was the best thing that could of happened to him. He is now in a job that he loves, is mentally stimulating and he has taken to it like a duck to water. In 6 months he has had 2 promotions and a whopping big payrise.
So I guess i'm saying to you that sometimes things will happen for a reason. Call it fate. I wish you all the best Heidi, and I know you are a rescourceful woman and will find 'the' job for you if it works out that you have to. I know you have been thinking about alternative work to what you are doing now. I urge you to take the leap. Dont make yourself ill over it.

*hugs*

Honestly, can't get back to work when I'm gone. I go stir crazy if a take more than a day off of work, and when I do take a vacation it takes me half of it to wind down enough to relax.

I admit it, I'm a work-aholic and I need help
