I have now had my tank running for over 24 hours and I have noticed today that my tanks water is cloudy. What does this mean and does it go away on its own or do I have to treat this?

Please help and sorry to be annoying - im new at this so unsure?

Thanks

Leighton

Hi Leighton, do you have fish in there yet? If so then it is probably a bacteria bloom which is a good thing. It means fish waste is being broken down. Do you know about the cycling process a new tank goes through?

What size is your tank and what fish do you have in there?

Before you criticize someone walk a mile in their shoes. That way you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Hi there, I dont have any fish at the moment because its only a new tank as of yesterday afternoon. The cloud was there this morning. Its only a small amount very faint but you can see it. The tank size is 30l.

Thanks

There are two methods of Cycling I prefer the fish method using a small hardy cycling fish that will survive the clcling process. I would also get some floating plant such as Floating water sprite.

Now comes the waiting time it will depend on how you cycle the filtration, substrate, aeration and your water conditions. It could take several weeks. Dont be in a hurry as this is the biggest mistake made by most beginers. Before you even buy any fish to go into the tank AFTER the cycling period get a full water peramiters test done.
Then come back with the results and an idea of what you would like to put into the tank. In fact you can start this process now.
Dont get caught up in the sales talk IT WILL BE OK etc.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

Here is an excellent link for you to read and it should help you make a choice on which cycling method to use.

If there is no fish in the tank then it is probably dust from the gravel suspended in the water. Water changes will help get rid of that.
