Fuzz Puffs and Bacteria Supplements | |
GobyFan2007 Fish Addict Posts: 615 Kudos: 363 Votes: 65 Registered: 03-Feb-2007 | Hi all! As some of you may know, i have a cycle going on in my tank, and it is coming to an end, soon. I have been adding Cycle to my tank every day or every other day, and at my WCs, along with Tetra brand Aquasafe conditioner, which contains special bacterial raising polymers in it. Also, i am adding Melafix too. I am still treating for ick, but a week after the last spot is coming to an end, and i am going to add carbon soon, at my next WC. Now, after i have been adding the Cycle, i have found little clumps of "Dirt" laying all around the place, and Fuzzy Puffs around the DW and on some pellet food that has been floating around. I am assuming this to be bacterial, and i want to know if i should reduce the Cycle doses, or add it in different intervals. I still have some cloudy water though, and i still need to add cycle. I know a LFS that stocks Biospira, but i am a bit hesitant to go there, if unneeded. Should i go and pick up a 3oz bottle? Or is the Cycle enough? I want it to end soooo badly! I will try to take some pix, but the cloudiness is very distracting, and it is taking away color from the Dwarf Neon Gourami. Anyway, check out my profile for a semiupdated tank stats. BTW, how long does it take for the cycle to end? With Cycle? With Biospira? Thanks again in adv. ~Goby ><> ~=!Vote Today!=~ <>< -----> View My Dragons <----- |

This should work. There is no set time for cycling there are too many factors to consider just keep testing it just takes time. Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info Look here for my Betta 11Gal Desktop & Placidity 5ft Community Tank Photos Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. Time for a vac and small WC. It'll slow things down a bit, but you can't have food and wood rotting in your tank. From memory Cycle was about 10 days and Biospira was closer to 4, however those times are greatly variable depending on stocking, tank size, filtration, age of product etc etc. I'm having more luck with Stability than I ever had with Cycle, and I hear good things about Nitravec. Maybe give one of the other brands a go when you run out? |

GobyFan2007 Fish Addict Posts: 615 Kudos: 363 Votes: 65 Registered: 03-Feb-2007 | Hmm, the algae pellets were rotting, and yes, they did look like mini pompoms. I guess that the wood was rotting too! When i took it out and brushed it with a toothbrush, it smelled horrible! I did scrape it down thoroughly, so it should be better. So i shouldnt add cycle every other day, and i should add Nitravec and Stability? Never heard of those B4. What brand is it? Should i add Biospira instead? Thanks! Ps: I did a 50% WC 2DAYS ago, and with the cycle going on, i can't do a gravel vacation any time soon. I will just remove it by hand. Thanks ><> ~=!Vote Today!=~ <>< -----> View My Dragons <----- |

You can add Cycle if you feel you are having success with it, but it sounds like you aren't happy with the progress you are getting with it. Stability is a Seachem product and Nitravec is by Sera. Biospira would be another option and seems to be widely accepted as the best of the best. Still, given what is in there, it isn't going to be the easiest cycle. What filter are you running? |

GobyFan2007 Fish Addict Posts: 615 Kudos: 363 Votes: 65 Registered: 03-Feb-2007 | I am running a Penguin Biowheel system, and it is rated for a 30 gallon, so its a bit over filtration. I dont seem to have any problems though! And i dont think that I will be changing filters too soon before Christmas, as that is the time im getting my new tank, which i now am sure i am getting. Its going to be a 30 gallon long, as i dont think that my upstairs bedroom will hold much more than that. I will have another tank downstairs though! It will be a QT Show tank (A nice Quarantine Tank), which is my 10 gallon. THe other tank MAY be the 20g H for my Kribs, or another fish. If not, i will have just a 10 gallon QT show tank. Complete with a trio of Swordtails, and a LOT of live plants! I am going to have 2+ wpg, so i can have a wide variety too! Sorry for getting off topic! Thanks, Goby! Check out my new fish pics! ><> ~=!Vote Today!=~ <>< -----> View My Dragons <----- |
