Hi all!

I was looking into getting up and running a nano shrimp tank, about less than 5 gallons. I was going to have some cherry or some other shrimps in there, and a lot of groundcover live plants. Now ive been reading up, and it says that marine iodine is awesome for the shrimps, as it helps them with their exoskeleton etc.... Now, in a planted tank, isnt this bad? Wont it kill the plants? If not, how much should i dose per gallon?

Thanks!

~Goby

Hi,
Here is what the folks at Arizona Gardens say about the
use of iodine:

Iodine

Keep your Shrimp Healthy! Dose with Iodine once a month!

A small dose of Kent's Super Iodine to your freshwater aquarium with added Shrimp is extremely beneficial. Since this product is typically used in Saltwater aquaria and in dosages of 1 teaspoon per 50 gallons every week, our nursery uses just a 1/2 teaspoon per 25 gallons 1 time per month to aid in the health and development of strong shrimp, that goes for all invertebrates too! We have been dosing our pools with Iodine for a about a year and a half now and our shrimp are more healthy, more active, eager to breed, and have also noticed an increase in successful egg hatching as well, it will not harm your freshwater plants or other freshwater fish when used in this small trace amount.

Use 1/2 teaspoon per 25 gallons, once a month!

Frank

Sweet!!!

Thanks Frank!

So......Lets see......2.5 ml is half a teaspoon, right? Well, i would have to put in about 0.5ml of it in my upcoming nano tank, and about 3ml for my 30g long tank.....So its 0.1 ml per gallon, right? Thanks Again!!!!!

Hi,
Sounds like a trip to your doctor might be in order.
The easiest way I know of to measure ml accurately, in
that small a volume would be to get a small syringe
(minus the sharp) and use it. They are commonly graduated
in ml and cc and would make dosing the tank a snap.

Hi there!

Since My parents work in the nursing areas, they can and do get a whole heckollatta of those 5ml siringes, and that is what i use to measure the ick dosage for the tanks. I also have a 35ml one, and it is also in CCs. I thought that they were going to come in handy!!!

Thanks again!!!
