Besides slate & petrified wood. There was a good examlpe of the type online. Ones like that of Amano's like. THX!

Hi,
The local, large, hardware stores have rocks in their
garden centers. Try Lowe's, or Home Depot. Look in the
phone book for large garden centers or landscapers, they
too have a large supply of rocks. Since you don't need
hundreds of pounds or even tons of rock, they frequently
have piles of smaller rocks that have chipped off the
landscaping boulders that they would give away or sell
for pennies on a pound. You might also have a local
quarry, check with them.

Not knowing where you live these are about as general
suggestions as I might offer. Knowing where you live
I might be able to be more specific. Road cuts
are excellent rock collection locations but can be
dangerous with traffic. If you are in the northern
climes they are spraying de-icer and salts on the roads
so this would not be a good time for that.

I just found a website with the stone i am looking for- The Seiryu Stone. I found this webpage that has all the types of stones i love. Apparantly i think some are used by amano, as i have seen some of his tanks where a few of the stones were used? Do you know what type of stone this is? I would love to find something like it!

Heres that webpage

Nice rocks Goby. Myself if I need rocks I head into the local park. It has a nice sized creek running through it and I spend a day wandering the banks and collecting them myself. The only time I will buy rocks is if I need something Very large or unusal, and I never buy online except for Petrified Wood, as I cant find that in the creek. Reason for that is Someone else picks the rock that your buying and they might pick one you don't want.

lake have tribituaries...

so there is a river or something arround!

just be sure to boil anything you find in order to anitize it for your tank(s)...

also do sheck out the hardware stores as the landscapers buy lots of there stocks from there and can be broken to be used in a smaller aquarium...

We dont have any local lakes with river or creek tribituaries. Just canals, pretty much. I am not going to get anything from these though. I dont trust them, and what lives inside the lake....

Ill just go to my Local Landscapers Store. A nearby LFS has great looking granite to, so....Slate is also good looking, no?

Hi,
Slate or Granite would be fine for the tank.

slate will probably be easier to work with. But if you have any stores that cater to rock hounds you might find some very interesting specemins for your tank, just beware some of them can be pricey.

When I first set up my 20g, I actually bought a few rocks. Then it occured to me to go out and find them in nature, lol.

My wife, son and I went walking along the New River in West Virginia this past summer, and I found some really nice looking rocks. I just rinse and soak them in really hot water in my sink, then let them cool and I am good to go.

I guess I am too stingy to pay for rocks. But, if you have no good sources for rocks where you live, ya gotta do what ya gotta do!

Landscape suppliers. Recommend you research ahead of time how each type will affect pH. Don't want to buy for what looks good then realise it doesn't work for the pH range you are aiming for.
