FRANK Moderator Posts: 5108 Kudos: 5263 Votes: 1690 Registered: 28-Dec-2002 | Hi, You probably ought to leave the tank alone for a while and see what happens. The plant on the right looks to be anacharis. It can be rooted or left to float. If it is left to float, it will form a rope many feet long at the surface. It is a high to moderate light demand plant and it needs at least 2wpg to flourish. The next plant over appears to be Java Fern. This plant is best grown attached to a piece of drift wood. It should also have about 2wpg of light. The second plant in from the left appears to be wisteria. It can be grown as a floating plant, or rooted. Both it and the anacharis, if allowed to grow floating instead of rooted, will soak up nutrients directly from the water reducing nitrate levels. Again about 2wpg if not more would be good this plant. If anacharis or wisteria is planted, plan on around 3wpg for light. If it is allowed to grow floating, then it is at the surface and lower light wpg will work as the light does not have to penetrate the water to get to the plant. I can't tell from the picture quality what the plant at the left of the tank is. If it is what I think it is, then it demands at least 3wpg to grow. JQW Fish Addict Posts: 869 Kudos: 758 Registered: 09-Apr-2003 | um..........you just tie it to a rock yea, take the sponge out. for plants that have roots, you should let them grow into the gravel so that they can have a good rooting system and take up more nutrients. for plants such as java ferns, they shouldn't be in a sponge anyway. your lfs uses sponge because it doesn't want all the plants to have roots that tangle up under the gravel and it saves space. my camera is broken, or i'll get you some photos of how i did it. ask around, frank and bensaf are the experts, and there are more. i'm not an expert on this, but i still know a few things |

tankie Fish Addict Posts: 857 Kudos: 848 Votes: 230 Registered: 15-Mar-2005 | u can use even a fabric thread to tie ur "windelov" fern to the rock (rock must be bit rough if ur want to affix it quickly)... and..we have to determine how big is ur tank...if u have only one strip of 14 w light..and if ur tank is 20g, for example... u have only 0.7 wpg...thats considered low light..and from what ive sen in ur tank...some of the plants require higher wattage. |
