Well, the saratoga is sold.
I took the 4ft apart yesterday, everything out, another mini cycle.
Currently only driftwood and rocks in.
Temperature set at 32 degrees and aquaclear filter running.
I need a larger aquaclear, my one at the moment is recommended for 100L.
I'm getting an Aquaclear 110. A bit over filtration, but I like the water clean. Also, aquaclear doesn't create too much current.

Some plants will go in in the next couple of days.

Will try to keep updating.

Inviting comments and suggestions.

Looks good. Very natural, IMHO.

Can't wait to see the discus

Week 1 Picture

All the plants are in.
New filter (Aquaclear 110) up and running with filter foam and carbon.

One small bristlenose moved into the tank, little cleaning crew.
Since the tank isn't brand new, plenty of benificial bacteria to have the cycle complete and done with with the first week.
Prime is used just to make sure everything is fine.

Ammonia = 0ppm
Nitrite and nitrate = run out of test kit liquid

Keeping up with the waterchange, 10% waterchange three times a week.

The tanks looking very nice.

Have you decided as to what color variety of discus you're going to have? Or are you going to have a variety?

Not too sure about specific strain yet, but something red would look nice, contrasting with the green and blue.

The sword plants look great, though I have to admit that it doesn't look like a lot of the discus tanks I've seen that are usually very dark. I think as the plants fill in it will get more of that look and feel. Have you considered some kind of fast growing stem plant to speed that process? Then you can easily remove them as the swords take over. Can't wait to see the discus!

Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean...

I would certainly consider plenty of tall stem plants also some floating plants as I dont think the Discus will appreciate being under the lights all the time.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

JQW,

Looks very nice. Was this inspired by one of Jeff Senske's layouts by any chance? Check out the big Discus tank on the opening page here http://www.aquariumdesigngroup.com/detected.php?page=&pass=

Not a bad design to emulate if you're looking to take things a little further. Maybe add some swords, plant them a little denser.

Yep

Once i get rid of the carbon in the filter, I'll start dosing fertilizer and try to get a denser plant growth.

The amazon sword only thing is inspired by Jeff Senske, love his tank.

It is my first time with discus.
Sorry guys with the delay of discus pics.
I need to pick up my camera again.....just too busy.

fishing-around, I've kept a lot of other tropical fish, and discus is no different, except they like cleaner water and higher temperature. Apart from that, discus is as easy to keep as any other fish. I've also done plenty of reading about the fish, it's always good. It's a good fish, but not recommended for beginners. Some knowledge on water chemistry and quality is needed.

At the moment, I do 10% water change three times a week with pre aged and heated water.

Oh....bad news, got worms in the tank.
Treating with fluke and tapeworm tablets at the moment.
Fingers crossed.

JQW ~ you probably already know this....see the "aquarium supplies" link at the top of this site? It will take you to equarium (took me ages to notice that link) and they have good prices on aquaclear filters. I am going to add another to my 4ft soon-ish. (Malawi setup)

Your tank is looking great. Discus huh? Good for you

Ps Good luck with the vampire problem...

Thanks Wish-ga!!!

Treated with worm tablets, 5 out of 6 fish are in 100% health, eating great and very active. However the smallest discus isn't eating. Maybe he's too intimated by his tank mates. I'll see how things go for another week or so, if nothing improves I'll put him in a separate tank.

Oh...I've setup another tank, maybe for more discus. Discus are the only fish I keep now. It's 50x16x16, bare bottom with Eheim 2213 filter.

Too tired with Uni to take some photos.....but they will appear, one day......

Took a couple of quick pics with my mobile camera today.
Quality is not top notch, but at least it shows some colour of the fish.
They are gowing really quickly

I'll keep posting.

Also, set up another tank for raising discus 50x16x16
