Sorry to disagree with you but I think it looks rather odd. Fish require total rest not to be disturbed by light. I have seen some thing like this in which the lights either flash or rotate on a on/off system.

Also they were extremly visable during daylight hours.

Have a look in [link=My Profile]http://

As part of the coral builder system, I think it's an interesting novelty piece, and I suppose it could be used to create an aquascape for african cichlids if you wanted to put that much money into fake rocks. keithgh is right, though, that the lights would have to be on a timer so that the fish would get at least 8 hours of total dark, and my experience with these kinds of novelty decorations is that they never look as cool in the tank as the concept originally sounds.

Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean...

One such device I have seen is actually quite interesting. It was a cave with lights. The guy I know with it, would leave them off all the time, until some fish had bred in the cave and then the fry were hatched. He used the lights to take pics of the fry. It worked out very well in the end.

On a side note, I thought the fish would never again breed in the cave, but he has had several fish breed several different times in the same cave. I guess it is because he only turns the lights on when he is taking pics of the inside of the cave. So it is not a long term stress thing, buy quick short term thing, and only at the time of the pics.

As for my liking or disliking them, I think those in your link will take away from all the aquascaping and such. Like previously stated, a novelty item. And what do you do when they get covered by algae growth. You would be cleaning constantly.

What about installing moonlighting in your current hood setup robby?
Might give a similar appearance, cost less and be easier to set on a timer?

There are also underwater LED spotlights that you can buy that you could install around the base of your own rockwork if you so desired. I'd personally have these underwater lights as a showpiece and nota day to day thing, as it can get quite confusing if random inanimate objects start glowing
