Has anyone had any luck with running a sand fountain in their tank? Everytime I fill mine my yoyo loaches play in the sand and empty it.
Any comments appreciated.
Thanks,
BubbleLover

Bubblelover,

I have one of these in my tank. It was really lovely until I got a couple of Kribensis. They moved ALL the sand out of it and set up house in there. In the end I just let them have it and stopped filling it.

Cheers
Crusha

They are made of ceramic and you put the sand in the trough at the bottom of the ornament, fit an air hose to the back (which is attached to a pump of course) and the air somehow brings the sand from the bottom through to the opening at the top and this allows it to cascade down back into the trough at the bottom.

They really are quite lovely and the amazing thing is that the sand doesn't spread it just falls straight back into the trough, as long as there is no strong current. I dont actually have a photo of mine in operation.

Hi mrwizerd,
If you go to my album site you will see a pic with the sand fountain. The one titled Aquarium 4 shows sand going thru......it's an old photo back in the days when I didn't have many fish and they left the sand alone. !!

Don't be sorry Keith ......... your right
I can't see it being used as a sand fountain unless I get plastic fish......and that ISN'T going to happen

Thanks for your comment Keith.

I have said this many times on FP. Members want to hear the truth. Not a oneliner to boost up someones posting points. It might be hard at the moment but it is always the best advice.

I agree I want to know the truth not somethin else I dont like fake stuff in my tank but I had the thought that it would be something fun for some of the cichlids who like to move sand about because it would get buried and un buried and they could play with it. I thought it may have some entertainment value. Out of 8 tanks only two have anything artificial in them and they came that way and have yet to be remidied because I am in the midst of moving and such but I have broke one of the three in that group and repaineded it and will be setting it back up shortly so I can do the same with the 20.

Thanks for the info guys.
