	sea spnge in FW tanks
fan fan Hobbyist Posts: 127 Kudos: 77 Votes: 13 Registered: 24-Mar-2004	is it possible to put sea sponges (found on the beach) into a normal FW tank?? can you treat them at all ?? or would they continue to break down and pollute the tank??

There is a procedure that could be used to rid the sponge of all dead/decaying material but that is used to prepare coral and other calcarious creatures. A sponge will not withstand that rigorous treatment. I would not put them in a freshwater tank.
