is it possible to put sea sponges (found on the beach) into a normal FW tank?? can you treat them at all ?? or would they continue to break down and pollute the tank??

Hi,
Your last sentence says it all.

There is a procedure that could be used to rid the
sponge of all dead/decaying material but that is used
to prepare coral and other calcarious creatures.
A sponge will not withstand that rigorous treatment.

I would not put them in a freshwater tank.
