Well, i came home for thanksgiving break, to find my tanks in a good condition. The plants were a little, or ALOT, overgrown, but other than that, everything was good. My new zebra loaches are in excellent condition. They have fattened up in the past 6 weeks, and i swear they all grew a 1/4 of an inch, which is quite alot for loaches in that time period.

I got a phone call from my dad 3 weeks ago saying that one of my new Botia kubotia (polkadot loaches) had died and he couldnt find the body. I have been home 4 days now, and the missing kubotai loache showed up. I have no idea where it was, it is as healthy as can be for beeing missing in action for 3 weeks.

I also went to a pet shop where i found pangio oblonga(brown kuhlii loaches) for the low price of $2.49. I bought 6. They range in size from 2 inches to 2.5 inches. They are also plump, not skinny like you see other kuhliis. They seem to be adapting well. They came out today for the first time since i got them three days ago to feed in the light. It was a fast transition. I can still see them in the early morning hours zooming about the tank. My stripped kuhliis never do this, of course they are older, and come out during the day now.

Sounds like your dad took very good care of them for you.

Yay! CLF Got some Chocolate Kuhlis (Like that better than Black kuhli). I agree, the black variety is plump and round, and also thick! I would have bought more Kuhlis, but the LFS that i find them in ALWAYS, and i mean ALWAYS runs out! It was just by some odd miracle that i found them looking at me! I bought them upon impulse, and now they are like completely adjusted to my tank. They have many hiding places now, but they always feel compelled to play in the open. I see them cuddling up together during the night. Its sooo awesome! I noticed that the P. oblongas are a bit less fretty and less timid than the P. kuhli. My loaches come out often during the day now, and sometimes all go out on a scavenging party! You also said that the range in size from 2" to 2.5" but one of mine exceeds 3". What color are they?

Enjoy! They truly are a treat!

Forgive me for ranting on and on about how much i love these fish! I really like em!

And i agree with Brengun. Your dad is really a good fishkeeper if he kept up the tank for 6 weeks!

lol, the missing Kubotai probably missed you, and when he sensed you were back, he was overrun with joy, he had to come out of hiding!

I have read several times here that Kuhli loaches are a waste of time as you never see them. The ones I have had and still have are always out and about possible because of all the low plants which they love to just roam through all the time. In other words mine are always active and I am glad I bought them.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

I nipped the rooting tops off my wistera and planted the front corner with it. I keep nipping off the height and the khulis love to rest in it.
I didn't say hide in it, as mine hardly ever seem to be still and are always out and about, so much so that today I had to push a couple out of the way when cleaning the tank floor.
If I didn't have other fish besides, I would love to have a whole tank of khulis. /:'

Kuhlis are some of the most active fish, IMO. Its like they can never keep still! The ones who thiml that they are a waste of time probably have insufficent numbers of them, and have probably never looked hard enough. My kuhlis love the Java Fern, and its like their bed. THey all cuddle up together on the leaves, and rest...

I bought another 2 striped khuli today. These new two seem more orange than yellow though. Is there a color variation or was the supplier feeding color enhancer? Time will tell.

I am thinking of a few kuhliis for the bottom of my 20 g. First I need to get a new layer of more rounded substrate though, my gravel is fairly edgy... With the Tiger Barbs and WCMM's, a couple Kuhliis would be nice for the bottom, and would love my plants. Now I just have to find the LFS that carries them. I dont see them much around here.

Well, Brengun, it could be a different species, or it probably just is the lighting in display, or the amt of stress. Who knows....

I wish i could get some striped ones!

KUHLIS RULE!
