got a question. I have had the hardest time keeping clown loaches alive in my tank - No, really ??...but jokes aside guys...I have had the best setup possible - very low nitrite/nitrate levels....Eheim canister filtration...mature tank..everything possible...except the PH and Hardness...PH 7.6 and KH fairly high...is it impossible to keep clowns in these conditions ?

I would say my Ph is always neutral and again always on the softer side.

My clowns are housed with my africans, high pH, high hardness, and they're very happy.

Clowns can adapt to hard water conditions very easy. They are a popular choice among rift lake cichlid keepers. You said that you keep nitrites at a low level. Does that mean at 0 or is there measureable amounts. Are they really small when you get them. I've heard that unless they have some decent size they can be hard to keep at first.

I kept clown loaches with my frontosas in a high pH with no problems. Maybe you need to change your source of fish. How are you acclimitising the loaches to your tank?

Before you criticize someone walk a mile in their shoes. That way you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

I keep mine in 8.1 PH . It took me a few to get 5, but they have adapted well. Buy from LFS that keeps in same water as yours if possible, and have them "hold" them for a while if possible. Acclimate slowly.
