Feeding Lettuce | |
coltsfan Hobbyist Posts: 106 Kudos: 75 Votes: 6 Registered: 11-Jul-2007 | I want to see if my rubberlip will eat lettuce. My question is what kind of lettuce should I feed him and should I blanch it first or just throw it in there raw? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Perhaps you could try that, or use a plant weight. When i put it in, my pleco will gnaw on it for a bit, swim away, and then gnaw on it again. I also have cucumbers which i give to him. He eats those too! ><> ~=!Vote Today!=~ <>< -----> View My Dragons <----- |

They prefered the iceburg after it had decayed a little bit in the water. They prefer squash and cucumbers. Make sure to peel the skin off as this is indigestible and may end up as a necklace on a fish. Also, i always make sure to remove the seeds. I had a bad experience with this. My one rainbow become constipated for i think was 5 days. It was not eating. Then one night, she was able to release the seeds, still in their original form. She is still living today. |

I hold it down with a small rock. I always cut away the whiter harder part of the lettuce fold it up then place it in the tank. I am also feeding it to the baby BNs in their keeper net. Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info Look here for my Betta 11Gal Desktop & Placidity 5ft Community Tank Photos Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. If I'm not mistaken this generally reduces the nutrients your fish are getting. On the other hand, this isn't exactly a big deal for plecs as their diet is naturally eating lots of low-nutrient food and passing it back out quickly. Just leave it in there for a while and they'll find it eventually. At least my plecs always do, somehow. -------------------------------------------- The aquarist is one who must learn the ways of the biologist, the chemist, and the veterinarian. |

I did however find out that he loves watermelon, cantalope(spelling), cucumber, and zuchini. I must be doing something right because he seems to be growing well! I'm curious to try cucumber and zuccini though, and I'll offer the spinach again after the cories arrive. As for cooking, I just blanch a leaf by placing it into a mug and pouring boiling water over it. I vote! Do you? |
