I have just put four very healthy and fat Ottos into the Betta 11G tank no others yet except the 4 zebra Danios which I used for cycling.

They have gone crazy and I think they have cleaned every thing they can see, including plants, DW, rocks, and even the substratre.

All except the one sinking algae chip I put in the tank this morning their first feeding (no food first day. They have not even looked at it at all. The chip has doubled in size.

Is "normal" behaviour for them.

Keith

Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do.

Yes. My ottos rarely seem interested in actual prepared foods. If you have live plants in your tank, they will rasp at the leaves and get nutrition that way if there is little algae for them to eat. I put half a large algae disk in the tank once a week for 4 ottos, and sometimes they eat it, and often they don't. Just suck it up with a gravel vac if it's been a few hours and they're not interested. You may have better luck with fresh vessies like a steamed piece of zucchini or spinnach, or a bit of cucumber.

Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean...

My otos very rarely eat wafers. I never clean the back glass so they generally stay there. They do seem so like broccoli though

Yes, it is normal. Some ottos will "learn" to eat prepared foods. Unfortunately, the ones that don't normally disappear.
