About how long can I expect a large piece of zuchini to last in the tank(for my clown plecs). How often should I feed them vegetables and are algae wafers really necessary or will the vegetables substitute in for them since all the algae wafers I feed them are devoured by the cories. Speaking of that since the piece of zuchini I have in the tank is large, can the clowns be overfed or do they know when to stop eating?

I do not put large pieces in (yes I have put in a fish frame & a pear core) I take it out when they stop being interested in the food. I have a pear core in now 1hr and they are still interested in it see My Profile to see what I have in the tank all are not interested in it,

As the small bits fall to the bottom of the tank some bottom dwellers enjoy the pickings rather than directly off the core or fish frame.

I only leave in for 24 hours or so.

I put the zucchini in at night time for the nocturnal ones to get a really good go. Then I leave it in for a day and take out whatever is left that night.

That way everyone gets a turn.

Just leave the food for 1 day & in that way, everybody will take his turn in eating.

How often do you feed vegetables to your PLECOS? None of my other tank inhabitants save snails ever go for it so I guess the food is solely for the clown plecs. Do clown plecs need algae wafers in their diet also or will the vegetables be able to replace them? Do they eat any meat? If they do how am I supposed to feed them that since bloodworms will be hungrily devoured by my other fish through thick and thin, night and day.

My clown will only occasionally nibble on the zuchinni that I add for my ottos. It liked to eat the amazon sword I had in the tank though. Do you have any wood? Clowns munch on wood.
Leaving the vegetable in too long will cause it to rot. If you still have the vegetable in after a day try using smaller pieces.

No one seems to be answering my questions. Yes I have wood and the large piece of zuchini I put in was eaten in 2 days. Here are my questions:
1:how often do you feed your plecos
2o clown plecs need algae wafers or will the vegetables suffice?
3:IF clown plecs need meat in their diet how am I supposed to give them that since bloodworms are hungrily devoured by my fish far quicker than my clowns can get to them.

I have two more questions for you guys. Do clowns need to have a tight fitting cave or will they be just as happy laying under driftwood? Also for preparing sweet potatoes is it necessary to peel the skin off or do they like eating that too?

1:how often do you feed your plecos

Mine get a slice of zucchini or squash once a week, algae wafers and bottom feeder pellet foods (meaty type) are dropped into the tank daily.

2o clown plecs need algae wafers or will the vegetables suffice?

Veges will probably be okay, but drop an algae wafer in and see if its eaten. Having that as an addition to their menu will provide variety.

3:IF clown plecs need meat in their diet how am I supposed to give them that since bloodworms are hungrily devoured by my fish far quicker than my clowns can get to them

After a little bit of research I dont think that having meat in their diet will do any harm. Maybe buy some shrimp pellets or another pellet that have a meat base?

From reading it seems important to provide them some wood to chew on and hide in aswell.

Good luck, hope I helped you a little.

Lindy

Yes you did thankyou. But I still have one more question. Do they need a tight fitting cave or will hiding under driftwood suffice?

Edit: Also if I decided to feed them shrimp(from the supermarket) what are the chances of the shrimp rotting and deteriorating the water quality of my tank? How should I go about preparing it?
