Hey everyone, my clown loach will nip everyhting that gets near his territory.

Tetra, other clown loaches, and even my YoYo loach.

What should I do??

Take the clown out and put it in a different tank for a week, then add him again?

Or should i just take the clown loaches cave away? (the YoYo seems to like it, and the clown is fighting him away)

How many clown loaches do you have, and what size tank? They do really well in groups, and since they can grow to a foot long, need space, as well.

they are in a group of 3.

The one nipping everything is the biggest one, and i guess you could say the "leader"

He always gray's out too when it is feeding tiem, and chasing EVERYTRHING away that tries to eat the pellets.

What size tank? If its a small tank aggression is magnified, even in fish that arent usually characteristicly aggressive.

Before you criticize someone walk a mile in their shoes. That way you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Second photo

There seemed to be no damage done may be pride first I thought it could have been a little bit of love making.
But the experts say that is impossible in capativity unless especially treated.

Lindy. they are in a 55 gallon tank. Even if they do get too big for it, they are small, and it shouldne be affecting them yet.

And Keith, that is exactly what mine do. I have had them for a LONG time, and they are still fighting over pecking order, or whatever they are doing.

Once i saw my clown do this to my YoYo, I made his cave non accessible. I have never seen his so mad before (he was nipping at the save, trying tp dig a hold to get in.. etc)

He is my favorite one also, and he is the bully of the tank (the only fish that really scare him is our pleco, and our huge clown loach... which is about 15 times the size of him)

Mine two clown loaches which i used to have, used to do that everytime they were fed! It is definatly fighting over either food or pecking order, if they arent doing any damage i wouldnt worry about it!

Nice photos by the way keithgh.

i dont worry about them doing it to the other clowns, but i worry them doing it to the YoYo loach.

He is the only YoYo in the tank, and he is pretty old (probably hitting 8 years) it is like a 10 year old kid kicking his grandfather.

I get mad at this kind of stuff, because i had swordtails, and they pecked my anglefish to death. To make it more sad, they were angles that we raised from breeding.

Shouldnt be, but maybe it is affecting them if you believe the loach is nipping at everything in the tank?
If its not doing any damage and you arent really worried then leave the loaches where they are. Its your call though, we cant see the behavior ourselves.

Well, he only nips at things trying to eat "HIS" food, and that go near his territory.

I have took his territory away, and will give it back to him later, once it is free, and up for grabs.

ugh.. i just fed these guys, and i saw that my cown has dug a hole in the gravel to get into his cave.... im going to take it out, and put it back in a week later, that way, he has no "claim" to it, and hopefully the YoYo will grab it before he does.
