I think it depends on the oto...the only non-fishfood mine would eat was fresh spinach.

Chris sounds silly but the answer is try and see if it happens, you can hold it down with a small stone. I would not leave it in any longer than one hr. You might have to try it several times. My ottos will not eat any added foods at all.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

I tried lettuce with my otoes. Didnt even try it for a second. I ussually just feed cuccumber. As far as i can tell, only one of my otoes eats it. Of course i only have two though. I want to get more when i come back from vacation though. You can leave the cuccumber in there for as long as 24 hrs. in my opinion. I read that some otoes like their veggies aged in the water. The water wont cloud up, the filter wont clog, the nitrates will be fine. Just dont leave it in their for longer than a day, that when it gets messy.

My otos won't eat the wafers, but once a week I give them some cucumber that I leave in the tank for 24 hours. In all 3 tanks, otos can be seen feasting on it. Some of the other fish like it too. The first time, they were a little slow to catch on, but now they know, they love it.

Think I'll try fresh spinach too & see how they like that. I worry I don't have enough algae.

Cheers
