What do you feed your otocinclus? | |
mnventurer Hobbyist Posts: 66 Kudos: 31 Votes: 34 Registered: 10-Jun-2008 | I have two little ottos who've done a very good job of cleaning my tank. They've seem to already grown in the few days I've had 'em. I drop a piece of an algae wafer in now and then but they don't seem to be eating it. What do you feed your ottos? Cucumber? These guys are fun to watch. They hold onto stuff with their fins. If you're thinking of getting a plecostomus these guys are much more fun. Or if your tank is too small for a pleco get some ottos. My otos don't touch the seeds, so scoop the seeds out so they don't make a mess in your tank. I've also heard of people growing algae for their otos. Take a jar of water and stick a rock in it on the windowside. Sooner or later it'll have algae on it, and you can place that in your tank for the otos to chow down on. Being a new Otocinclus keeper myself, I do have to comment that they are quite fine fish and not quite as delicate as I though they would be. On the other hand, maybe I've just been lucky. I've got 4, and occasionally they will even swim around like tetras midwater, which is lots of fun to watch. -------------------------------------------- The aquarist is one who must learn the ways of the biologist, the chemist, and the veterinarian. |

Take an algae covered rock out to feed the otos, and return the bare rock to the container. If you have other fish tanks, scrape the green stuff off the insides of the lids and drop that in to the otos. Just don't look at the tank for a while as it goes everywhere. Otos also seem to like shimmying up stem plants to eat the algae off the stalks. Mine also love cucumber tied to a rock. Don't be too quick to take it out the next day. The older it gets the better they all seem to pile in an eat it. |
