New fish... Won't eat? | |
Tartar_Sauce Fingerling Posts: 49 Kudos: 11 Votes: 0 Registered: 24-Sep-2001 | Heyla! I recently put a pond (over the last 2 weeks) and none of the fish I put in will eat... Heck they barely swim around, they must just huddle up like they are conversing. (maybe they are?) Just curious... I got 3 small koi and 3 goldies and the temp is 60-70 maybe more. I know my new aquarium fish always responded well to first-time feedings. Thankfully I only put in a about 6-8 pellets to see what they would do.... Thanks everyone! |

In fact it's generally suggested not to feed below certian temps as the bacteria is dead and you're just causing them more trouble. How long of an acclimation period did you do? Water quality readings will help too; ammonia, nitrite; nitrate; ph. ^_^[hr width='40%'] "in any case, chocolate is hardly a rare comodity." said Chaos. Tartar_Sauce Fingerling Posts: 49 Kudos: 11 Votes: 0 Registered: 24-Sep-2001 | Hmmm... I don't have the equipment to test the Ph, etc. But when I did (for my aquariums) our water is a nice 7.0 Ph with mild alkalinity. We finally got them to eat some today, the food sat there an hour before one brave sniffed it and then ate it. The others came around and played follow the leader... We're having major problems with the pond holding water right now too. We think its the filter intake which was a pain to tighten, but we got a new fix for that, now if we can only get the fish happy. As for the temp, I'm not 100% what it is, it actually feels closer to 70+ but I'm waiting on my thermometer for it. I've got the dread feeling I should've never build the pond now... ]:| Oh well, if it doesn't work out, we'll have a fish fry!!! Seriously though... :#( |
