I've easily spent over $1000 US on my 30 gal. planted tank. It was my first tank set up after doing research, and it was an acrylic tank, to boot, and I made some mistakes along the way that probably cost a total of $200 or so. I've recently been setting up a 65 gal. and spending only about $650 on the whole thing (minus fish). When you break it down, $10 per gallon is pretty reasonable.

Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean...

Keep in mind though tanker that all things fishy cost alot more here in Aus. If I remember right Keith had some special plans for the tank aswell.

Oh, and I dont want to add up how much I've spent.

Before you criticize someone walk a mile in their shoes. That way you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

$600 for a 10 gallon tank sounds a bit high to me. Especially when you consider that a bare 10 cost's $10, and a starter set less the stand is only $40. Toss in a commercial stand and you are still less than $100. Then add up the misc bs that goes into the tank and you are pushing $200. Even where you to go totaly nuts and go with compact lighting or some such you could still easily come in under $300. Seems to me for $600 on a 10 you should be looking at something close to a nano reef rather than a betta tank, hehe.

Opiate

I have kept a total of all I have spent on the 10G Betta tank. It is not up and running yet total cost $600+ Aust.

It would have been a lot higher if I had not made the base myself and picked up some excellent bargins at sale price.

I have gone for all quality equipment.

Its not about the money. Just the satisfaction of keeping the fish. If you boil down the hobby to dollars and cents then you can ruin the enjoyment of fishkeeping.
