I have a 55g tank that i want to seperate into 2 sections to isolate one of my male cichlids which is aggressive and is constantly attacking my other male cichlid who was recently sick and has not recovered and its likely he wont recover unless he stops getting chased and nipped at!

So my question is .. what do you use to seperate the tank and still allow for water flow and movement ?

Most stores will sell platic dividers for standard-sized fish tanks.

To be honest I have never seen a divider for sale in Vic Aust, that does not mean they do not exist. Please let us know how you go.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

Hi,
If you go to a fabirc store or a hobby shop, you can find
sheets of plastic mesh. Normally used to weave thread or
yarn through to make patterns and pictures, they are
perfect for making dividers for tanks that allow water to
flow through but keep the fish separated.
The mesh (holes) is actually small squares and comes
in various sizes ie: 1/8, 1/4, inch squares.

Hi carpe_diem

You're in Sydney, right? I don't know how far from Sutherland Shire (Menai) you are, but I had a small glass tank that I wanted to divide into 2, to house 2 male bettas.

My LFS measured my tank up & cut a piece of perspect (spelling???) with water flow holes, into just the correct size to divide the tank in 2. He then attached 2 suction caps 2 affix the divider to the rear glass of tank. We didn't need suction caps on the front, as the fit was firm enough that the 2 at the back held it all in place. On a bigger tank though or with stronger fish who can push hard, you might need suction caps in front as well. I have 2 happy bettas now in residence.

If you are close enough to Menai that a visit to this LFS is possible, let me know & I'll give you the contact details.

Cheers
TW

Just pop down to me and I will do it for you. That is if youn whant to to come all the way to Vic. All jokes aside perspex is very easy to cut, use a very fine saw not electric unless you know exactly what you are doing. It does drill easly. When you get it as if they have any scraps and have a practice cutting and drilling it.
