I have just got a second hand 3 ft tank, complete with 5 cichlids Looks great but...Prob. a daft question...the wood finish of the hood/cabinet don't match my other tanks. Would it be safe to paint them, while the tank was stocked?

Hi,
You will have to remove the hood to a work space, and
refinish it. Allow it plenty of time to dry/cure, and
then put it back on the tank. I would not do the work
in the same room, and I definitely would not allow it
to dry sitting on the tank.

It could be done but by the time you finished all your fish and any thing else in the tank would be dead.

Depending on the finish you might have to remove it all first this involves either chemiicals or just hard sanding work.

It certainly will have to be done in a well ventlated area for your safety then let dry a long slow process.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

Thank you both for your replies.

Maybe I will just have to live with the mahogany finish for a while. It's not so bad
