It was you wasnt it? http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a245/longhairedgit/IMG_6560.jpg spot the evidence? http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a245/longhairedgit/rameggs1.jpg I suppose thats the trouble with self adhesive eggs. Gutted, oh well theyve only been in community a few days, and theyre only half grown. |

This might be some weird thing that just me thinks about, but it seems to me that species that don't show parental behavior shouldn't be bred. I don't want bad parent cichlids, even though I don't plan to breed them. ________________________________________________ I like Led Zeppelin. |

It is most frustrating, but these Rams arent even a year old yet, so I guess theres plenty of time for them to get it right. |

Bob Wesolowski Mega Fish Posts: 1379 Kudos: 1462 Registered: 14-Oct-2004 | Past experience withs rams and discus indicates that the female is generally the EESOB. I don't know why, but 4 out of 5 times mom has caviar a couple of days after a spawn for the first couple of successful spawns. I have watched the pairs closely as they tend the eggs. Oftentimes the parents will pick up an egg to clean it or swallow a fungused egg. At that point the new parent has a problem - spit or swallow. If they swallow once, they seem to just go on... With dedicated EESOBs I remove the female after spawning. longhairedgit Fish Guru Lord of the Beasts Posts: 2502 Kudos: 1778 Votes: 29 Registered: 21-Aug-2005 | Hard to tell with these two,I think its the female but heres the other one if you wanted to look. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a245/longhairedgit/IMG_6551.jpg The female has a darker chin and belly, although not the reddish belly of a mature female yet, I honestly cant see the difference in the finnage yet, they both look very similar, and perhaps the male isnt old enough for the finnage to have completely developed. The (alleged) male definitely acts the part, he postures a lot, hes a little bigger than her, and they are so close in patternation they might actually be from the same clutch, which means I suppose, that I really ought to get another unrelated pair. One of em is female though, hence the eggs , and they do seem to be a couple. He appears to be much taller in the body, her lack of midbody girth is probably down to being a little underweight when I got her, shes getting chubbier daily though. Cheers for the advice on the females bob, ill watch for that. |

I wanted to eat my own young a time or two. Oops was that in print? Anyway, I'm sure they'll get it figured out and spawn completely and successfully raise the fry. Great close-ups too, whenever I try the fish are blurry, or don't hang around and I get another shot of ... a leaf! How pretty... Anyway, love the pics, love the fish, hope they get it figured out soon! "If you're afraid you'll make a mistake, you won't make anything." -Family Circus |

bodangit Hobbyist Posts: 97 Kudos: 37 Votes: 10 Registered: 19-Jan-2006 | That first one looks like my male, both of mine are about 1" and one is stouter with better color but the suspected female is kinda round with a really pink belly. I can't get pics though, I promise they would be the most blurred things you've ever seen. ________________________________________________ I like Led Zeppelin. |

Let's make it an official term. But we need Bob's permission. Bob ? It'd seem I have some EESOB's in my tank as well. With such clear photographic proof, that ram will have to hire O.J.s lawyer.
