Never saw this plant before today at the LFS where they had them for $17 each.
based on how they were in the plant tank and the way the roots look they seem to be similar to java fern in that they'd want to be tied to wood/rock.

Anyone have these and know their lighting requirements, temperament, habits?

Babelfish

There 2 varieties (in my book any way)
heudelotii and heteroclita.
There are also three leaf types

Both have similar growth habits.
Must not be planted in substrate.
It will only grow on DW/rock
Temp 22-26c
Water must not be too hard.
Lighting should be moderately high

Hi Babelfish,
I checked on Tropica and they only had one variety
that they sold. By the way, my old link did not work,
they have completely changed their site.

Here is their info on this one variety of the plant:
http://www.tropica.com/plants/plantdescription.aspx?pid=006

From the looks of things it might be a "difficult" plant
to successfully keep as it requires allot of light.

Darn, we're only at low lighting in the tanks and no CO2. I was hoping that all plants that like being tied to driftwood were low light.

At $17 a plant I think I'll skip it till the tanks are more plant friendly! It's such a different looking plant that it grabbed my attention right away.

Thanks for the info guys.

What I found was that the "heudelotii" is a low light plant, can only be tied to rock or driftwood but needs soft water, PH less than 7. AND this place sells it for only $5.49.

And that's why it's easier to be an aquariust in america and not australialand .
Even if they would ship here, customs would smack me around with it till my head spun.

Might see if it comes up in the auction in sept, although I think it's 'fish only' this time. Which of course won't stop them from having it run till 2am.

Side note, I should have just started with the profiles here on FP! http://fishprofiles.com/profiles/plants/African_Water_Fern/75032/
