Ceramic Noodles? | |
coop Enthusiast Posts: 168 Kudos: 60 Votes: 2 Registered: 25-Jan-2006 | hey have'nt been on here for like 2 years or something but im back into the hobby, re-doing my 55 gallon planted tank at the moment. i was just wondering, as i haven't used them before, if the ceramic noodles used in filters can filter out some of the trace elements or chemical ferts in my aquarium? |

These is no way they should remove any of the plant ferts. Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info Look here for my Betta 11Gal Desktop & Placidity 5ft Community Tank Photos Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. FRANK Moderator Posts: 5108 Kudos: 5263 Votes: 1690 Registered: 28-Dec-2002 | Hi, The sole purpose for the ceramic noodles is, as Kieth mentioned, it to provide a larger surface area for bacterial colonies that help with the Nitrogen Cycle to thrive on. Because they are ceramic, the don't wear or break down and should last "forever." The noodles have absolutely no effect on the chemicals in the water. Carbon in a filter will remove those chemicals for a while (about a week) until the carbon becomes saturated and stops adsorbing the chemicals. Depending upon the bio-load, the carbon should be replaced every couple of weeks. Frank -->>> The Confidence of Amateurs, is the Envy of Professionals <<<-- |

The ceramic noodles are for biofiltration, but for chemical filtration there is normally carbon. If you do not want that, you should take out the carbon. -------------------------------------------- The aquarist is one who must learn the ways of the biologist, the chemist, and the veterinarian. |
