hey there just wanting to know if i should use an under gravel filter in my planted tank?? i have been told that it shouldnt be done becuase of the clogging & damage it can cause to plant roots etc.. i was just wondering if anyone else has had expirience with it and if it is best to go with it or without?

It doesn't damage plant roots as much as restrict their growth. If you have a choice between an UGF and any other filter for a planted tank, choose any other filter. The UGF will be too restrictive for your landscaping.

i have an ugf and a aqua clear 200 hob.. does that make a difference??

I think this is the old one many love them and praise them while others will not use them at all.

I have always used UGF and never a problem certainly not with aquascaping.

It is a matter of personal choice.

Hi,
The choice of UGF or not is up to you. If you already
have one in the tank, I would not tear it apart to remove
it. Conversly, I would not tear a tank apart to install
one either.

This is a picture of my tank that has had a UGF for over
12 years. I perform regular maintenance on the tank,
including "deep" cleaning of the open areas with a Python
brand syphon. The picture shows a healthy planted tank
with a well maintained UGF system...

I love it, I would not have a tank with out one.

thanks for the replies.. the ugf is already installed and i think i'll keep it there..

frank wat is the plant on the right of your picture?.. do you use powerhead or airstone?? nice pic btw!!
