Eheim Classic 2250 width 355mm flow rate 1000lph

Eheim Classic 2260 width 355mm flow rate 2400lph

say there are 10 ''bio bits'' in every cm of height. we know they hold the same amount of biobits per cm of height due to the circumference being the same.

the flow rate through the 10 ''bio bits'' in the 2260 is higher then the flow rate going through the 10 ''bio bits'' going through the 2250

anyone have any idea why?
pretty stupid question but it could raise some interesting discussion.

Hi,
I'm assuming that either the pump itself, or the motor,
or both is stronger in the 2260 than the one in the 2250.

Small changes in the style of the pump (shape of the
impeller for instance), or even the size of the wire with
which the armature of the pump is constructed, can
account for the differences in output despite the sizes
of the filter and various compartments remaining the
same size.

no im saying why did they make it so that the water is flowing faster through the 2260s media?

Is the higher flowrate better at utilizing the media?

Is the higher flowrate to ensure a more even distribution of water movement through the taller canister?

If so then why would eheim which 90% of the regulars on this site recommend have really low flow rates compared to other canisters when they use very similar media and have a similar design?

What I understand about Eheim is the flow rate is slower because it goes through a different medium and also it/is a larger total surface area it flows through.

Just at a guess if you took all the media out you might find the flow rate would increase also if you packed it tightly of filter wool it would be a lot slower.

I hope this makes sense to you.
