i have made my own caves from pvc and rock and i have seen others do it. but i was wondering if anybody made anything like this for anything else in the tank? like to hide the intake tube for your filter, be it OTB or canister? leaving the bottom exposed or alot of holes or something.

MB,
Once upon a time, I ran into a DIY article an aquarium backgrounds made of polystyrene. The polystyrene sheets were cut to fit the back of the aquarium then carved to resemble roots and rocks before being painted. The sheets were glued into place with space left behind the sheets for heaters and filtration. Strategic slits allowed the flow of water throught the equipment.

I did find this product - http://www.tmc-ltd.co.uk/aquarium/natureform-backgrounds.asp. It may be more extensive than what you were thinking about but...

This DIY site ihas some links to other DIY sites - http://littleboxofbones.com/fishtank/tankrebuild/.

yea i've seen them. their the full tank backgrounds, i thought about that, but would have taken to long and been to expensive for a 150. but i'm more wondering if anybody made something more specific just for the filter intakes. to make it look like a tree stump or something.

You could probably stick it behind something, if you wanted, but I've never seen anything that made a filter intake tube to look like something else...

I usually throw clumps of java moss on my filter intakes. The moss acts as a prefilter, and the moss apperantly consumes the stuff, and it hides the filter intakes rather well (the tanks I've done this in are heavily planted)

Hi monkeyboy,
I try to hide any tubes or filters behind rocks or tall plants. Thanks for those sites Bob, had a quick look at them but all I seem to do online lately is read FP....
Learning heaps on here.
