Dyi Filters? | |
monkeyboy Fish Addict Posts: 521 Kudos: 375 Votes: 223 Registered: 10-Apr-2005 | Ok, i got questions and idea off of another thread. http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/threads/26655.1.htm?21# but in this thread, there was talk of some DYI filters http://randystacye.com/diy_canister_filter.htm, and was wondering if anybody had tried this yet? Becuase I was looking at doing this idea, except, making 3, chaining them together and using 3 different types of media. would basicly be a hang on the back version of a floor canister filter. anybody tried anything like this yet? or am i going to be a test monkey? The great disadvantage of a cannister filter is its ability to pump all of the water from your aquarium and distribute it onto your floor. Given the quickly reviewed cost- benefit analysis that is subtly referred to in the above statements, I think that I will stay with a commercial unit that has tested seals... __________ "To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research." researched from Steven Wright |

If you were to connect up three or even more you would require a very powerful pump to give you a good water flow through all the filter units. I personally think it can be done but at a cost. It is not about how nany Lt per Hr it is the quality of the filtration that a good canister will give you. By the time you bought all the units and the connecting pieces glued them all together and purchased a powerful pump then hope you have got it perfect first time it would be well past the cost of a good Eheim which is a perfect canister unit.
