To start off,I have a 60 gal tank. The question I would love help on is, can I make two intakes (one on each end of the tank) with the filter that I have now? If so, how do I go about doing that?

Thanks

Entkitty

You can, but for the size of your tank, it would not be that much of a need or change. All you would have to do is get a Y or T piece that would fit the tubing of the filter. Then cut the tubing, place the Y or T piece, and add additional tubing to the extra outlet. You would then need to have some kind of home made intake in the tank, or purchase an additional intake like that which comes with the filter (would have a much nicer appeal in the tank). But, with your size tank, your output would push enough water to circulate the tank around back to the single intake. Is there a specific reason you want to have two intakes?

beat me to it by just a few minutes. justr about exactly what I was gonna say. just tee it off and either live with the unasthetic homemade device or buy rreplacement tubing and attach that.

It seems to me there is a lot of waste when cleaning my tank every Wednesday morning. I am taking out 14 gallons of water each week. The plants and other decorations in the tank trap the waste. I was just thinking if I have two intakes that might collect more of the waste. Other than that, there is no other reason. (I have found same replacement parts on BigAls so all would match.)

Try moving the intake valve to one end of the tank and the output on the other side; facing each other, this should help reassure that it is moving the waste out of the tank. Another thoughtcut back on how much you are feeding the fish...this very likely will helphml

Eheim makes a kit that allows you to change the configuration of the spraybar. Using this kit, my spraybar is vertical or perpindicular to the substrate. This bar is made up of three pieces, each of which can be directed in a different direction. It gives me much more control of water flow.

entkitty,
If the issue you're trying to solve is that the waste is settling on the plants ect you might look into a small powerhead for the tank. Maxijet makes some very small powerful (also a bit from what I've heard) powerheads, I have a few AC's as well. Keeping one running in the corner that seems to collect most of the waste will help by keeping it suspended for longer allowing the filter to do its job. And the best thing about powerheads is that they don't agitate the surface like you'd get with an airstone or bubble wand and are almost (I can hear it but just barely) silent.

Bob, I will have to look into that kit you are speaking of, it sounds as if that may work. As for the suggestion that you gave me babe, I do have a Maxi-jet 600 power head running now. Bob, where would I be able to find this kit you are talking about.

I have the 2026 in my 5ft 310lt 81USg
This is what I have done I have the inlet closest to the filter one end/back corner, and the outlet oppososite end at the top with the three part spray bar (see photo) this was tanen to show it in action. It works just below the water level.

Also the top fine filter pad I have added another fine this seems to work a lot better. I do a 15% water change weekly and clean the Canister completly every month without fail.

My Profile will give you more info about my tank.

You can see the "Universal Installation Kit" at the above site. Drs. Foster & Smith carries the product at:

http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=9606&Ntt=eheim%20universal%20installation%20kit&Ntk=All&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Np=1&N=0&Nty=1

I purchased kit 2 as it gave me additional configurations. Kit 1 is strictly a vertical configuration.
